Fall is Here!
New in the Library
New Fall Titles in the Library with Classroom Applications
We have five new, fantastic fall themed additions to our collection that have wonderful classroom applications to science, math, vocabulary, and shapes lessons.
Pick a Circle, Gather Squares: A Fall Harvest of Shapes features a family trip to the farm, while pointing out all the different shapes around them, like hexagons, triangles, and circles. This book's illustrations are done in collage, and a fun assessment could be done in the same manner, with students pasting the different shapes in the correct area.
For younger students, Pumpkin Countdown (not pictured) follows a group of students going on a field trip to pick pumpkins, while counting down from 20 .
Science and Math
How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin explores skip counting and estimation in a fun pumpkin-themed classroom experiment. They explore three different sized pumpkins and after the students count all the seeds, to their surprise the smallest pumpkin has the most!
Vocabulary Connection
How Big Could Your Pumpkin Grow follows some giant sized pumpkins across the United States with a synonym for big on every page. "Colossal," "stupendous," and "mighty" are some of the synonyms used.
Science and Problem Solving
In The Apple Orchard Riddle, students learn how apples are harvested, how cider is made, and what the different varieties of apples are. Their teacher also asked them to solve this riddle: "Show me a little red house with no windows and no door, but with a star inside."
Say Cheese!
We have a new piece of equipment in the library - an easy to use video and still photo camera! This camera works just like a flip cam, with a USB connection built in. Come to the library, check it out, and please give me feedback as I may purchase another one since the demand for cameras have been high.
Science Videos
We have new science DVDs in our collection from the Rock 'N Learn series. Each DVD covers a variety of topics, making these a great resource for short clips of the science topic you are covering.
Activotes
Activotes are now housed in the library. Please bear with us as we are going through all the sets, checking for battery issues and making sure they work properly.
