March 27th - FULL DAY for MS and HS students. Printed calendar is incorrect.
FMS is Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! 🌂
What a magical weekend! With three sold-out shows this past weekend, and three more community shows and rehearsals, the Drama Club performed Mary Poppins Jr. for over 2,000 people within the past five days!
Huge thank you to Mr. Hill, Ms. Richards, Mr. Miller and all of the parents involved in making this such a wonderful experience for over 150 students. The Fugett Family recognizes and appreciates your efforts, going above and beyond to make to make this entire show a positive and memorable event for so many students. We are already looking forward to next year’s show!
FMS Equity Team HBCU College Tours - First Steps to Becoming a College Scholar!
The FMS Equity Team successfully organized Fugett's first HBCU College Tour! Nearly 60 students signed up to attend the college campus tours of Cheyney University and Lincoln University this past week. Thank you Dr. Brown and Mrs. Jones for coordinating this eye opening visit to some great opportunities in our own backyard.
Engaging students with iPads, enhancing ideas, and completing animal projects.
This past week, Fugett students used new iPads to translate library books. Students used Google Translate to assist them with their animal research projects last week. Later, they checked out different informational books and used the iPads to learn about additional topics of interest. It is awesome to see them so engaged!
A Reminder About Academic Ineligibility 🔺👇
The weather is getting warmer and calendars are starting to get booked with practices, games, shows, and activities. We want all of our student-athletes/performers to be able to fully participate in everything Fugett has to offer. For this reason, we are reminding all students and families of the academic requirements for participation.
Any student who is failing at least two major subjects, or at least one major subject and two minor subject (such as a Unified Arts class like Art or PE), by noon on Friday would be ineligible to attend sport practices and games, clubs, and any extracurricular, school sponsored activities which occur from the next Sunday through Saturday of the following week. This would include all musical performances, drama, dances and sporting events.
Monitoring grades - I highly recommend that families use the Parent Portal to monitor grades and sign up for automatic email updates in the Email Notification tab (see picture). You can also look through individual course and assignment updates by using your child's Schoology account and accessing each Class and Assignments.
Making up work - Teacher have until noon Friday to grade and update any missed work or tests to bring failing grades up, prior to the ineligibility report being generated. Turning assignments in on time is the best way to keep grades up-to-date.

Ramadan and supports for FMS students and staff
As we enter the holy month of Ramadan, we would like to extend our warmest wishes to all members of our school community who observe this sacred time.
Ramadan is a time of reflection, spiritual growth, and compassion for millions of Muslims around the world. It is a month of fasting, prayer, and charity, where individuals strive for increased mindfulness, empathy, and connection with their faith.
We recognize that fasting during Ramadan may have various impacts on our students and staff, including changes in energy levels and dietary requirements. For those observing Ramadan, we offer our support and understanding. Students celebrating Ramadan may go directly to the library during their full lunch time. All other students may access the library and recess area during the last 15 minutes of lunch. We encourage students and staff to communicate any specific needs or concerns they may have during this time, and we will do our best to accommodate them.
As a school committed to fostering inclusivity and understanding, we encourage empathy, respect, and support for our Muslim peers and colleagues during this time.

In addition to participating in the event, we are trying to raise funds to increase mental health awareness and decrease stigma during Mental Health Awareness Month this May. 1 in 5 US adults experience mental illness each year, and 100% of us have mental health. All proceeds from this walk benefit Aevidum, a local 501c3 that provides free mental health and suicide prevention programming to schools and communities. Referee/ Umpire Shortage
Please be aware that there is a shortage of referees and umpires that will likely impact sports at some point this Spring- both home and away. PIAA is allowing for “scrimmages” between teams if no official is available. When this happens please be patient and understanding if a fill-in referee or umpire (teacher or other adult) is helping out. We would all prefer a “scrimmage” over a cancelation.

Flexible Instruction Day (FID) for Weather Emergencies
The WCASD participates in the Flexible Instruction Day (FID) Program. An FID offers an alternative approach to delivering instruction due to weather or other emergencies when travel or access to our buildings is not possible. FID(s) eliminates the need for make-up days in the event of school cancelations as they count as full days of school. We will first use traditional snow days in the event of inclement weather. Now that we have exhausted our 3 snow days, we plan to utilize a FID in the future. You can find more detailed information and expectations for WCASD’s Flexible Instruction Day (FID) program under the page named "Flexible Instruction Day (FID)."
FMS Carline Information

Please Check Backpacks 🎒
Parents: Please encourage your children to check their backpack for toys and water guns before coming to school after a weekend. We understand that backpacks may serve a dual purpose over the weekend, but any items in violation of the WCASD Discipline Manual will result in student disciplinary outcomes.
