Dear Marshall Parents,
As we finish up the school year there are some things that I want to share with you about the end of the year. June 7th is the last day of school and it is a half day. This day is for students who wish to improve their grades or who are not passing their class. We will be informing you via email on June 3rd if your child needs to attend. All students are welcome to attend, but some need to attend in order to pass. Students who have failed a core class(Math, Science, English, Social Studies) will automatically be signed up for summer school.
Summer School for high school credit will be different this year. Students will be enrolled in an online credit recovery class. Students will be given a test at the beginning of a unit and based upon their results will determine which assignments have to be done. For example, I took the pre unit test and passed all but one section of the test. My assignments would all be on that one section. You will not have to do assignments for topics you already passed. The length of time it will take you to complete depends on how well you retained knowledge from the class that you did not pass. Some students may get it done in a week and some may take the whole summer school to pass.
As always effort and determination will be a key factor in how quickly and how well you do in summer school. We will have teachers to help you with the work. If you do not pass an elective class we do not have a summer school program to help you recover that credit. My recommendation is that you are making sure that your child finishes up strong with the second semester so that summer school is not required.
We do have one summer school program that you can take to earn Physical Education credit and that is Advanced Fitness. One of the requirements to earn credit in advance fitness is that you have to be in attendance everyday for both sessions. If you miss more than two days you will not be able to obtain credit. This is a great way for students who want to take a full load of classes and take an elective class or a pathway class that helps them be Career/College Ready.
Seniors!!!
Do you have your cap, gown and tassel?
Have you ordered it recently?
If not....See Lea or Syvrud ASAP!!!
Congratulations Mrs. Bakken
Congratulations to our very own Mrs. Paula Bakken, Middle School and High School Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor. She was awarded the Crystal Apple Award! This award recognizes and celebrates exemplary educators for all they do throughout the year. Mrs. Bakken shines bright in their contest components of inspiration, leadership and passion. #MarshallProud
Attendance
Lea needs to hear from a parent before a student can leave campus.
Medical Appointments - athletes must bring a note from the Dr to be able to practice /play that day.
Even if your student is not an athlete a Dr's note is a good idea so it can be added to their file.
High School Fees
Athletic Fees for Spring Sports have been added in IC
Course Fees
Course Fees for 2nd semester have been added.
Parking Permits
All students driving and parking in the high school lot MUST have a parking permit. Permits are $50 for the year but are prorated by quarter please call Lea to purchase a permit after November 1st.
Do not purchase a permit if your student does not have a valid driver's license.
Students must present their license. They need to provide the following info on the vehicle they will be driving to school - make, model, year, license plate # and color.
The parking fee is prorated by quarters so if your student starts driving to school 2nd semester the cost will be $25. Parking permits can be obtained in the high school office at any time.
Student Athletic Pass
High School Students do NOT need an athletic pass. All MHS students are encouraged to attend home athletic events and support their classmates. Students should have their school ID ready to present for entrance to all home games.

Waste Wizards in Need of Items for Summer School
We are in need of a large amount of unwanted items for the Waste Wizard's classes this summer. We need things that look interesting and safe for kids to take apart/demanufacture, such as:
VCRs, DVD players, cell phones, clocks, radios, computers, bicycles, scooters, small kitchen appliances, lawn mowers (push and riding), electric toys, string trimmers, chainsaws, power washers, X Boxes, vacuums, hair dryers, sewing machines, calculators, flashlights, watches, cameras, fans, snowmobiles, mopeds, fishing reels, power tools, leaf blowers, Chromebooks, etc.
We can't use anything that contains Freon, such as refrigerators and dehumidifiers. We also need to avoid TVs and monitors.
The students will be learning how to safely use basic hand tools, material sorting by type, battery identification, disposal rules, manufacturing techniques, industrial safety, and shop etiquette.
Any help you can offer to round up these things would be greatly appreciated.
