SEEKING HOST FOR 2018 CONVENTION
PRICELESS UNIFYING OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUR SCHOOL
As a result, we are seeking a school with administrative support and hotel availability to step up to take on the most consequential challenge a school can take on--hosting a state convention. We are prepared to walk you through the process and have previous hosts ready to support you. Hosts will tell you that this is the most unifying experience your school will ever have. Hosting not only allows you to work with your core STUCO, but the quiet leaders throughout your building who don't run for office but can easily chair a committee or serve on one. While these students will need to see the convention in November to truly get what OASC State Convention is and they will lean heavily on you in the beginning, there is nothing more satisfying than watching their independence in problem-solving as the actual convention approaches. THIS. IS. THE. ULTIMATE LEADERSHIP. EXERCISE.
FOR THOSE HESITATING, CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:
- For the first forty (40) years of the OASC, hosting was a one year process. State Secretary ran at the same time other offices did (and it was usually contested). It was only in the late 80's/early 90's that Secretary was selected two years out. Consequently, you CAN DO THIS in a year and a half.
- Now that we have Digital Dynamics in charge of productions and Devonna Landrum as script writer and stage manager, the cost for productions has been cut in half since the Bixby Convention ($60K vs the previous $120K).
- As a result, a host can break even with in-kind donations. Our registration fee per person can cover most of your costs. It is not the fundraising game it was in the past.
- We no longer provide Sunday night banquet which cost $20K.
- We no longer do housing--it is all hotel.
- We now do all registration through Wufoo--no data entry from forms.
