Purple Up for Military Children
In the month of April, we celebrate The Month of the Military Child! Military children are those whose parents/guardian serve or have served in the military. Every April, all month long, we celebrate the courage, perseverance and tenacity demonstrated by our military-connected children and what they mean to our community. There are more than 1.6 million military children in the United States
who face many challenges and unique experiences as a result of their parents'/guardian's service. Military kids are resilient, flexible, and mature. Thank you to our Lil' Husky military students-- you serve too!
Purple Up Day!
Purple is the color of all the military branches mixed together.
Show your pride by wearing red, white and blue!
Military Pride Club
Did you know the official flower that represents military children is a dandelion? Dandelions can take root and flourish practically anywhere the wind blows them. Military children are much like the dandelion. Just like these resilient flowers, military children are also unique, growing wherever the wind takes them.
Mindful Mornings Club
Yoga has great physical health benefits by building strength and flexibility, and also has social emotional health benefits by helping with self-control and anxiety. Mindful mornings will be a gentle yoga flow that will help our students cope with their STAAR testing jitters. We were so happy to have Mrs. Barrie come back and volunteer her time during the month of April to lead some STAAR yoga sessions for the Mindful Mornings Club.

Congratulations to these former Lil' Huskies! We wish you well on your next adventure!

๐ฉ๐ฉDonut Stress ๐ฉ๐ฉ
With STAAR testing happening 3 weeks in a row in April, we really wanted to help our Lil' Huskies get ready for the test! We focused on positive affirmations to build self-confidence, coping skills in case we had feelings of nervousness for the test, and preparation ideas to best be prepared mentally and physically for the test. Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders knew they "DONUT" need to stress about the test!
Animals In My Brain
Students identified the important functions of at least 2 brain structures involved in the body's stress response. They also created a puppy origami as it represents the Amygdala. The Amygdala warns you when there is danger (run, hide, freeze, or fight). They named their origami and shared what it likes and what makes it bark.
Teacher Appreciation Week
Monday, May 6th until Friday, May 10th
Parents, here are some inexpensive/free ideas that your child can celebrate their teacher for teacher appreciation week! ๐ Counselors are so grateful for our teachers and we know our Lil' Huskies are too!
Parent Resources to Support Social Emotional Learning at Home
Signs of stress and anxiety in children often show up as physical or behavioral changes. Children respond differently to stress depending on their age, individual personalities, and coping skills, which can cause many parents to overlook the underlying issues that may be causing their child's behavior.
It is important for parents to recognize the signs of childhood stress and to look for possible causes. Parents can usually help children manage stress and anxiety, by using different techniques and strategies. For example breathing techniques, exercise, yoga, stretching, grounding exercises and positive self-talk.
