SLAVES
*Identify and research the character
The point of being a slave was to be forced and treated like a servant for their masters. the two types of slaves were field slaves, and house slaves. they both had pros and cons but some were treated horribly. To some people, they thought that slaves were a good thing, but to others they thought that it was a horrible idea because all man are created equal so we all should have the same rights. I think that slavery is horrible and that there shouldn't be no slavery even though there still is during this period of time.
*what was their role in the civil war?
Slavery played a big part of the war. It was not the reason for the war.
"Hostilities began on April 12, 1861, when Confederate forces attacked a U.S. military installation at Fort Sumter in South Carolina."
Slavery became an issue in the war once, newly elected Lincoln knew the north could not win the war if England came to the aide of the Southern states. So he created the Emancipation Proclamation in September 1862. This now being a racial war England could no longer help the South. But they were part of the reason why the civil war started.
*How did they feel about the Civil War and how did they feel about their role?
They wanted to be freed from their masters and some didn't even want to help their masters in the south because they wanted to be freed. Anyways they had to and the slaves wanted to help the north but they couldn't because they lived in the south so they were unlucky and had to stay on the confederacy side. And they felt there role in the civil war was really important.
*What interesting facts did you find about them?
In the second part of the eighteenth century, slavery was beginning to disappear naturally in the United States as farmers were planting crops that required far less manual work. Many slave owners freed their slaves and it began to look like slavery would die out completely. But things were to change. In 1793, Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin. This meant that a single man could process fifty times more cotton in a day than previously making cotton a huge money making crop.
*How would you have felt being their charater?
I would feel horrible because I don't want to be treated unfairly just because of a color. like I said that all man are equal and I should deserve the same rights as a white man. and I don't want to work my butt off and get treated really poorly because of my color. And if I messed up I could get punished for the small little things. I would hat to be a slave and I don't anyone to be one as well.
