Daisy Troop 2209
February 2015 Update
Hi Troop 2209 Parents!
Highlights of this month's meeting:
- Our host was Brandy Caracciolo. She helped with our very large SWAPs making project. Thank you, Brandy!
- We made tons of SWAPs to bring to Daisy Day on February 28th
Coming up:
- Daisy Day: Saturday, February 28, 2015--Princess theme at Camp Dorothy Thomas, Riverview FL.
- SAVE THE DATE! Weeki Wachi is happening on April 25th!
Our next meeting is Tuesday, March 17th, right after school. It is a field trip. We have drivers and helpers signed up, but we need to reconfirm these.
Daisy Day is Saturday, February 28th!
Who: Daisy Girl Scouts in Sunny Palms Community
What: An all-day event for Daisies in the Sunny Palms Community
When: Saturday, Feb 28th. We will meet at 8:15am at Gorrie to carpool. We will return at approximately 4:00pm to Gorrie.
Where: Camp Dorothy Thomas (a Girl Scout Campground) in Riverview, FL
Why: To introduce K-1 Girl Scouts to camping and the outdoors
Info and What to Bring:
Check weather and dress appropriately. No open-toed shoes. Plenty of layers.
Girls/adults need to bring refillable water bottle/thermos. There are water stations onsite.
Girls/adults need to bring peanut-free lunch and at least one canned good.
Each girl needs hat (with a brim) to wear and use during SWAP ceremony. Note: we have ordered lanyards for our troop. We'll send out more about this next week. You may not need the hat, except for wearing in the sun.
Each girl needs to bring a bandana and a whistle.
All adults who attend must be registered & have completed volunteer application on file.
SWAPS! We made SWAPS!
SWAPS: Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere.
SWAPS will be exchanged at Daisy Day. At our last meeting, our girls made a ton of SWAPS. Please share these ground rules for SWAPS for Daisy Day. We will also cover these on our way to Daisy Day.
Some Ground Rules For Girls:
- You can't swap air or a handshake. If you get a SWAP, you must give a SWAP.
- You can't refuse a SWAP, even if you already have one like it. Or even if you don't like what is offered.
- Always SWAP with a smile.
- Remember to say Thank You.
- Even if you think the SWAP you are receiving isn't very nice, be kind and still say Thank You. The girl who made it may think she did a beautiful job, even if you don't think so!
Some Ground Rules For Adults (if you are chaperoning):
- Try not to shadow your daughter to make sure she gets the "best" SWAPS.
- Remind girls of the ground rules and to SWAP with a smile.
- Role-play in advance with younger girls so they know what to expect, to avoid tears if they don't get what they want.
- If you see your girls have received SWAPS that appear poorly or carelessly made, please consider that some girls may not have the capacity or fine motor skills to create SWAPS, and that they likely did their very best work in spite of what you may see as the outcome. This can be a teachable moment for your girls to appreciate the differences in others, and that Daisy Day truly is "for every girl."
SAVE THE DATE! April 25th is our trip to Weeki Wachee!

The Girl Scout Promise and Law
The Girl Scout Promise
On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
The Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.
