Great Things Happening in our Classrooms at South Middle School!
Mr. Merz provided students with three options to show their understanding of the lesson. Students had a choice of creating a book, making a collage or creating a game. Students presented their work to their classmates. Mr. Merz used a rubric to assess the product and students also filled out a self assessment. A student shared with me, "Presenting is hard to do in front of the class. But it was easier because I got to choose my project."
Our classrooms are filled with multiple intelligences and providing choices to demonstrate understanding creates different pathways for students to make connections and learn.
Assessment and Learning
Performance assessment has students performa a task rather than fill in the blanks or multiple choice on a test, for example. A teacher shares what he does in his classroom in the following article.
Strategies, Strategies, Strategies
Word Walls are highly effective to improve literacy skills. This strategy supports all of our students by promoting higher level thinking skills and increase active student engagement while learning key vocabulary words. Our students have to learn different key vocabulary for all contents. This really supports our diverse student population!
Mindset
Ms. Busby shared this video clip to energize our brains and our students' brains. It explains a simple, quick exercise to stimulate the brain. This might be helpful in creating a growth mindset in our classrooms. :)
Thank you Ms. Busby for sharing!
