Inclement Weather
Please note that NCC follows the schedule of the Platte County School District including school closures for inclement weather. If the Platte County School District closes due to poor road conditions, excessive snow, or frigid temperatures, NCC will not be in session. NCC will communicate through email, Facebook, Twitter and the NCC website about closures. For the 22-23 school year, NCC will follow the PCR-3 plans shown below:
- Plan A (No School and No Remote Learning)
- Plan B (No School and No Remote Learning)
- Plan C (Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Day)
It is likely that we will not implement Plan C inclement weather days (no school with remote virtual learning) until we reach a threshold that would push the school year past four inclement weather days. We will always communicate what each day is via our website, email, Facebook, and Twitter.

Our Program - Health Sciences
Northland Career Center offers a one or two-year program for students wanting to explore the health industry.
The Health Sciences program focuses on building students' knowledge and skills as a nurse as well as focusing on other areas of healthcare. Health Science students earn First Aid & CPR certifications and can earn CNA certification their first year. Students also have an option to return their second year to experience project-based learning and work-based learning (Internships).
Our Instructors - Mr. David Brown & Mrs. Lee Bledsoe
Mr. Brown, MS-CTE, BSN, RN, became the Health Sciences instructor after teaching the Practical Nursing program at NCC from 2013-2017. He has more than 30 years of nursing experience. Before working at NCC he worked as a CNA instructor and spent many years before that in acute care. He began his career in healthcare as a CNA in February of 1983 at a nursing home in his hometown. David continued his education, obtaining his LPN in 1989 from Kansas City Mo. Board of Education Program of Practical Nursing. From there, he obtained his ADN in 1995 from Sanford-Brown College, David completed his BSN in July of 2013 at MidAmerica Nazarene University. Since then, David has completed the required course of study to obtain his Educator's certification through DESE.
Mrs. Bledsoe, MS-CTE, BSN, RN, joined the NCC staff in August 2016 to pursue her passion of teaching. She graduated with honors in 1990 from Missouri Western State College now Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Mo., with a bachelor's degree in Nursing. Prior to NCC, Bledsoe worked 26 years as an RN in multiple areas including at hospital diabetic and medical surgical units, home health and long-term care. She also worked as Parent Educator and substitute nurse for the North Platte R-1 Parents As Teachers program, and Charge nurse and MDS Coordinator for a long-term care and skilled nursing rehabilitation facility.
Our Alumni - Ms. Myranda Swearingen & Ms. Rachel Denney
Ms. Myranda Swearingen & Ms. Rachel Denney both graduated from NCC's Health Sciences program in 2018. Once again the former classmates prepare to graduate together again this December when they both graduate from Missouri Western State University's Nursing School.
The decision to attend NCC came naturally for both of them. For Myranda, a Liberty High School graduate, it was a way to prepare for nursing school and for Rachel, a former home school student, it was an opportunity to decide if she was ready to commit to nursing as a career. The experience proved rewarding for both women.
"it opened the door to healthcare as a whole and was a stepping stone to etiquette and taking care of patients," Myranda said.
Rachel credited Mr. Brown, her former instructor, for expressing his love for his job and compassion as reasons the she continues to visit NCC.
"Ultimately, it made me a better nurse," Rachel said.
Both Mryanda and Rachel have secured jobs following graduation. Mryanda will be a registered nurse at Mosaic's Emergency Department and Rachel will work as a registered nurse for Children's Mercy Cardiac ICU.

Our Program - Teaching Professions
Northland Career Center offers a program for students wanting to explore the teaching industry.
Teaching Professions students work in established local preschool classrooms, elementary, and middle schools to help gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in their chosen field. This program provides students with the coursework and internship hours to earn a Child Development Associate Credential or Youth Development Credential Certificate.
Our Instructor - Mrs. Lacey Middleton
Our Alumni - Ms. Taylor Napravnik
"While being at NCC I did all of my internships through the Platte County School District, which helped me create a lot of connections early on," she said. "Right after graduating NCC, I attended Missouri State University and majored in elementary education. The information that I learned in NCC helped me with my course work during college. After graduating college, I decided to come back to my hometown and school. Through the connections I have already made and my knowledge of the district, it helped me with starting out my career. "
Those connections and real-world experiences are why Taylor would recommend NCC to others.
