Dolphin Digest Purpose
A Message from Mrs. Baker
Thank you again for a wonderful week of digital learning.
I’m excited to see what facets of this means of instruction
will be used, when we eventually return to our traditional
ways of schooling. I believe this might be the boost needed
reach and engage all learners and families. This week Kevin
Hendrick and Michael Feeney produced a video with clarifications to grading and coursework expectations. The most
critical pieces I drew from their message was the following:
- Teachers remain responsible and remain the final decision makers in determining student grades.
- It is expected that all students will receive traditional grades in the 4th quarter.
- Making personal contact with families by phone
- Identify to families which assignments will be used for grading purposes during the 4th grading period
- Equity should play a big role in grading. Please consider the following factors for grading:
1. Grading might not be the same for all students based on accommodations, ELL, ESE, etc.
2. Consistent access to technology and support at home for work
3. Your contact with individual students and parents
If you have not already done so, I strongly urge you to view
the video sent out on Tuesday in its entirety. It truly gives us
parameters to work within.

Potential Retention
This week, if you are TRULY wanting to discuss any students for retention, please complete the form using the link below. Remember, you will complete the form in its ENTIRETY, we will set up a TEAMS meeting to discuss the student. If the child is ESE, etc, I will also invite the service provider to be a part of the discussion. The majority of our conversation will circle around what will be different for the child if he/she is retained. Another year to the learn the content or mature is NOT different and won't be seen as a reason for retention. In addition, students would already have to have been considered retainees prior to spring break and the parent notification letter must have been signed. Attendance and performance from our time online will also not be a deciding factor in the decision.
Once we meet and discuss, a recommendation will be made. If the decision is to retain, you will then make contact with the parent and from there I will put the recommendation in to the Area Superintendent for final approval.
Here is the link to the form due May 1:

The district is in process of developing protocols that align to social distancing and ‘stay at home’ guidelines. Guidance for both student and staff building close-out will include how individuals can pick up personal items, return materials (e.g. books) and/or pack classrooms. A plan for this will be forthcoming and will be communicated in upcoming weeks.

New Faces
Welcome Back Tony Calandra
Greetings Lakeview families. My name is Tony Calandra and I am so honored and grateful to be returning to Lakeview Fundamental. I have been with Pinellas County schools since 2004 and I was a Lakeview parent from 2003-2011 as both my daughter and son were students here.
I am looking forward to working with a great group of educators and excited to be joining the Lakeview Physical Education Team, working alongside Coach Wood and Coach Robinson.
I can’t wait to meet and also getting to know all our Lakeview students and families.

Summer Bridge Update
The following message is now posted in the SRS and Summer Bridge webpage:
Summer Bridge registration is currently suspended due to COVID-19, CDC guidance and social distancing. At this point, how this year’s summer instruction will be delivered is uncertain. There will most definitely be summer instruction for Pinellas County Schools students, but it may be virtual as is currently taking place, or if schools are permitted to reopen, it may take place face-to-face in schools. Details are still being developed for the 2020 summer instructional program.
Kudos
