Twitter in the Classroom
Harnessing Social Media in a Controlled Environment
Tool: TodaysMeet
Using TodaysMeet you can create a Twitter-like environment in your classroom. Yes, I did just suggest you use social media in the classroom, and no, I'm not crazy. Below you will find activities that will foster authentic student engagement using a method students are already using as a form of communication.
Point of View
- Is your class reading a novel? They can tweet as different characters.
- Studying a time in history? Students can tweet from the perspective of important people throughout history.
Collaborative Notes
As you cover a topic, students can "tweet" an important point or what stands out to them. At the end of class, you will have a collaborative transcript students can access to study for upcoming assessments.
Question/Answer
Students can "tweet" their questions. This allows not only the teacher but other students to answer.
