Marshall Homecoming Parade - Friday, October 7
- Who: All MHS Band members (student athletes will still march with the band, but may wear whatever their fall sport team is wearing for the parade)
- What: MHS Homecoming Parade
- When: Call Time is 4:00p at the Marshall MIDDLE School parking lot. Parade is at 4:30p
- Where: Downtown Marshall
- Uniform: (Weather permitting) - red tie-dye MHS Band shirt, dark shorts. If weather is cold, we will be in full marching band uniform.
- Parent Help Needed: We need parents who can drive students from the end of the parade route to MHS. We will need you to park near the Franke Center parking lot and wait for us as we finish the parade. We will need to scurry up to MHS so that we can start our rehearsal on time at 5pm. If you can help drive students, please let me know via email (jroot@marshallpublicschools.org) along with how many total students you can take

Uniform Usage and Care
- Uniforms must be transported in garment bags
- Garment bags and hat boxes should have the student's name on them - the garment bag has a slot on the front that will fit an index card, and you can tape another index card to their hat box. This is important in helping to make sure that your child's uniform does not get confused with someone else's
- Hat boxes DO NOT go inside the garment bags. Shoes may go in the garment bag, but not in the main compartment with the uniform. Shoes should go in the zippered pocket at the bottom
- After a performance, uniforms should be removed from the garment bag, hung up separately, and allowed to air dry completely. This will help with odor elimination
- MHS BAND UNIFORMS MAY NOT BE PUT IN THE LAUNDRY AT HOME!!! Uniforms can only be dry-cleaned. If needed during the season, please take them to Heritage Cleaners in downtown Marshall. They are the only local dry cleaner who uses the correct chemicals that prevent our uniform colors from bleeding.
Home Football Game Schedule
5:00 PM - Report to Pavement (across from tennis courts)
5:35 PM - Dinner
6:10 PM - Get Dressed
6:20 PM - Uniform Inspection
6:30 PM - March to Stadium
6:50 PM - Pregame Performance
Halftime - Halftime Performance
Postgame - March to Band Room/Dismissal
Rehearsal Attendance
With that being said, we understand that there will be times when students must be absent - either due to illness, family emergencies, trip, conflicts, or other valid reasons. In the case of a student absence, please do the following:
- Parent/Guardian should communicate with Mr. Root as soon as you know that a conflict exists. Communicating directly with Mr. Root allows him to adjust rehearsal plans accordingly. Absences that are not emergencies should be communicated to Mr. Root at least 24 hours before the event.
- Do not assume that Mr. Root (or anyone else) is aware of your personal schedule - that includes athletic participation, jobs, or anything else.
- Refer to the MHS Band Handbook for more information regarding student absences. That can be found HERE (attendance policies are discussed in sections 2.4, 2.5, and 2.6)
Regarding conflicts with athletics, the following rule of thumb will be applied in order for students not to be put in the middle:
- Athletic contests (games, matches, etc.) will take priority over music rehearsals
- Music performances will take priority over practices
- If the conflict is between rehearsal/practice or performance/contest, the teacher and coach must be notified well in advance to work out a solution
