Meet our Amazing Students
Week ending March 15, 2024
In connecting to our school’s theme – Amazing Things Happen Here – each week staff is recognizing students for all the things they do to make Prairie an AMAZING school. Students are recognized during Friday’s announcements and receive a certificate to acknowledge their AMAZINGNESS.
BY TAKING 10-15 MINUTES TO COMPLETE THIS SURVEY!!
PLEASE complete the Illinois 5Essentials Survey.
How does our school benefit from my participation?
This survey provides an opportunity for parents to have a voice in improving our school. Your participation can help our school identify areas of strength and those in need of support, with fine-grained questions designed to discover specific areas for improvement.
Currently, fewer than 20% of Prairie parents/guardians have completed this survey. Remember that your responses on this survey are confidential. Please note that the Survey can be completed for each student you have at Prairie (or in District 203 in general). Completing the survey should take no longer than 10 minutes.
The final day to complete the survey is Friday, March 29, 2024. Thank you for your continued support and participation toward improving our schools!
Donate funds to fight pediatric brain cancer!
The Prairie Student Council is sponsoring this year's Swifty Foundation Fundraiser to fight pediatric brain cancer. Last year, Prairie collected over $5,000 for the Swifty Foundation. As of the end of this week, we only have $342 in donations.
How Can You Donate?
Student Council will be collecting money for the rest of this week before Spring Break (fundraiser ends on March 21.
- To donate by cash or check, please have your student bring the donation to their classroom teacher in a sealed envelope.
- To donate online, go to the Swifty Foundation donation page and provide the requested information. You can then print the receipt page of your donation and have your student bring to their classroom teacher.
Our goal this year is $6,000!

Celebrating World Down Syndrome Day
Wear Your Crazy Socks on Thursday, March 21!
Knock Your Socks Off!
This year World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on March 21, 2024. This is a symbolic date to celebrate those individuals with Down Syndrome as it represents Trisomy 21, the medical term for Down Syndrome, which is the third replication of the 21st chromosome.
We want to encourage staff, students, and families to take part in the “Knock Your Socks Off” campaign that is celebrated around the world. Everyone is encouraged to wear crazy socks (brightly colored, mismatched, printed, layered, etc.) to give awareness to the syndrome.
Wear your socks on Thursday, March 21 to show your acceptance and respect for the inclusion of those with Down Syndrome.

EARN FREE TICKETS TO A COUGARS BASEBALL GAME!
CALLING ALL READERS!
Your child can earn tickets to a Kane County Cougars baseball game by participating in the Cougars Reading Program. To earn free tickets:
- Sign the form indicating your child has done the reading every 2 weeks. There is no need to fill out specific information on books or cut out the slips. Just your signature and child’s name is needed!
- At the end of 8 weeks, have your child return the form to their teacher with all the completed signatures.
- It is suggested for students to read 4-5 days per week for 15-30 minutes.

School Supply Kits for 2024-2025
Home & School provides the school supply kit service, in partnership with School Tool Box, to give parents/guardians a convenient way to buy school supplies in a comprehensive kit compared to purchasing independently. From markers to notebooks to even paper towels and wet wipes, all of the teacher requested classroom supplies are included in these kits.
To purchase your kit
- Visit the School Tool Box site
- Select the zip code and then select our school - ‘Prairie Elementary.'
- Orders will be accepted until June 16th.
- If you do not see email confirmation of your order, please check your spam folder.
School supply kits will be ready for pickup before the start of the school year, so once you purchase online, your student(s) are covered! Please remember to order the supply kit for the grade your child will be entering for the 2024-2025 school year.
If you have any questions, please contact Carolyn Buckingham (cforgue@gmail.com) or Anne Walker (annewalker011@gmail.com).
NEWS FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE
Absences
A friendly reminder that all student absences need to be reported to the health office/attendance line at (630) 420-6350, or through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Messages may be left at any time or day of the week. When leaving a message, please leave your student’s name, grade, teacher, and reason for your child’s absence. If we do not receive a message or notification from you when your child is absent, we are required by Illinois law to call you and inquire about their absence for safety reasons. While it is certainly permissible to email your child’s teacher of their absence, reliance on emails for attendance become problematic when staff are absent.
Donations Welcome
With the cooler weather, we are in need of donations of sweatpants and leggings for both boys and girls that need to change their clothes due to a variety of reasons. If you have any of these items in any size, your donations to the health office would be much appreciated!
