Diary of A Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever
By: Jeff Kinney
Characters
Greg Heffley, the protagonist, is going through a rough and hard time...middle school. But he's not alone he and his friend Rowley Jefferson, who can at times be the Antagonist go through it all together. Greg throughout the story changes like he used to be scared of everything and anything from the elf on the shelf dolls to the knocking on his window and even a little 5 year old kid who chases him and Rowley around with a stick. But at the end he stops being so scared and decides to mature up and face the truth not myths or tales. Rowley however never changes throughout the story he stays the same old weird kid who believes in scary stuff and myths. Rowley does however stop being Greg's friend in the middle of the book because of an argument over the word volleyball.
Theme
I think the theme of the book was to appreciate what you have because you might not always have unlimited access to it. I comprehended this from when the blizzard hit Greg and Rowley's neighborhood, they had no food or power. And they were trapped inside the snow was over the mailbox and they were locked inside for an entire week! That's when Greg realized that they don't have unlimited access to anything and everything because sometimes life throughs a curveball and you may not be exactly prepared for it. Or as some people say "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you gonna get"
Setting
The setting is in the middle of a modern day type of time. Greg Heffley definitely takes advantage of this type of setting. He mostly in his spare time plays video games and doesn't get out to much. The book doesn't really tell where in present ay it is but it is in the United States but the book does not tell where.
Conflict and Plot
The conflict of the story is that Greg, the main character, and his family are trapped indoors for an entire week because of a blizzard that had hit their neighborhood. In the story, this may be hard for you to believe, but the label of the conflict changes, first it was Man vs. Man. His school starts to ban all sorts of things like some of their favorite things in the lunch room and even takes away everything in the playground. eventually the students get mad and start to protest against the schools new policies, one of which is Greg Heffley. Then towards the end it turns into a Man vs. Nature kind of plot when the blizzard hits their neighborhood and they are forced to stay inside of their house for an entire week.
Book Recommendation
I enjoyed this book because while reading the book actually made me feel like i was inside of the book. The book helped me see characters point of views and helped me understand what i was reading. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Man vs. Man plots. I would also recommend this book to people who want to get really lost in their books. Every time I picked up this book I didn't want to put it back down.
