Parent News
This month we are focusing our attention on Hawk PRIDE- Perseverance, Responsibility, Integrity, Diversity and Excellence. Students showing these traits will be given a ticket and every Friday, 5 names are drawn to receive a prize. Lessons on each trait will be taught during Monday advisory.
There are still 8 weeks of school left. Please make sure your student comes to school everyday prepared for class. They need a 2.0 GPA this last quarter to be involved in afterschool activities at Hilhi.
Spring brings with it a lot of added drama at this age and our goal is to guide students towards expressing themselves in positive ways.
Have a great month.
Sincerely,
Mary Mendez

Information about suicide
Dear Parents,
There has been talk among many youth and families about the book and Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why, a fictional story that centers around a youth who dies by suicide.
There is appropriate concern in the suicide prevention community about how young people might react to the show, and the popularity of the series is a valuable opportunity to have dialogue with youth to provide context and understanding around safe messaging about suicide.
The series is raising concerns from suicide prevention experts about the potential risks posed by the sensationalized treatment of youth suicide. While many youth are resilient and capable of differentiating between a TV drama and real life, engaging in thoughtful conversations with them about this show is vital.
Our greatest priority is student safety, because if students are not feeling safe, they are unable to fully engage in learning. This is a great opportunity to speak to your child about how they are doing, about suicide, and about how to access help and resources available to them. Consider us a resource; we at South Meadows are available to help in any way. Please call your school counselor to access school and community supports for youth with depression, anxiety, or thoughts of suicide.
