Resiliency
Dear Carver Families,
As our students transition into our Return to Learn phase this year, it provided another example for me of how our students are meeting the challenge and making the best of this situation. I started to have a conversation with a friend about resiliency of our students with all the challenges they have overcome and the challenges they will face in the future. This was some of the information that she provided me with when we were discussing this topic. The level of resilience a person possesses, determines how well they will navigate the setbacks, struggles, failure, disappointments and frustrations that comes with working toward a long range goal.
I wanted to share a few things you can do to help increase Resilience in students of all ages (Or us):
1) Build positive relationships that continually nurture, support and challenge kids and that sends the message that you believe in their abilities to reach their goals.
2) Hold the bar of excellence and expectations HIGH. Regardless of their life circumstances, challenges, zip code etc., make sure they hear you loud and clear in everything you say and do...'I love you too much to lower the bar.'
3) Provide opportunities to serve others. Often the chance to give to others by way of service isn't provided. Create ways for them to see the world through another person's lens by helping them serve.
4) Help change perspective. Children often have extreme views or reactions to small things that really aren't as bad as what they think. By talking through a situation with them and helping them see it differently, it decreases anxiety and helps increase their belief in their abilities to navigate situations that seem overwhelming.
5) Help kids find their spark, purpose and passion. When kids identify the things that 'light them up' and then have a 'spark champion' to support those interests and talents, their resiliency, confidence, motivation and engagement soar.
If there is any way we can support you and your family when facing these challenges, please let us know. If you have any questions, please call us at 719-328-7100.

Will Students Who Are Participating In In-Person Learning Return Their Devices?
The district/schools expectation for devices is that students will bring their charged devices to and from school daily to ensure that the same device is used by one student and in case remote learning should be needed in the future a student will be prepared.
If you signed a waiver declining a device, your child will be provided a device to use while they are at school.
