PLE Principals Updates
February 01, 2021
Dear PHamily,
The last weeks have been a whirlwind of emotions. We all are experiencing things differently and I want to acknowledge that our journey can look different in some aspects or similar in others. While there are agreements and disagreements, it is important to give everyone grace and to see each other’s humanity. Thank you for your continuous support during this time. Thank you for your grace to our amazing teachers. We love and value all and especially each of our educators at PLE.
PLE has a new team "Building Safety and Health Conditions Review Team" that meets weekly to review our PLE data to better instruct students returning to in-person instruction. This team is comprised of different grade level members, nurse, counselor, special education, preschool, and administrators to work collaboratively to make decisions.
Celebrations:
- 2nd graders are wearing masks
- Social distancing is going well
- Arrival/Dismissal transitions are going well
- Boost has a new location
Working on:
- Speeding up health attestations-We need help from our parents in completing the attestation near 8:00 AM each school day.
- Another Wellness Room was added
Warmly,
Melisa Macias, PLE Principal
We love Mrs. Carey, our amazing PLE Counselor!
February Virtue of the Month
Our Virtue of the Month for February is ‘respect.’ Respect is an attitude of caring about people and treating them with dignity. Respect is valuing ourselves and others. We show respect by speaking and acting with courtesy. When we are respectful we treat others as we want to be treated. Respect includes honoring rules of our family or school, which make life more orderly and peaceful. It is knowing that every man, woman and child deserves respect, including you.

A highlighted school map is attached for your convenience.
Reminders:
- Have devices fully charged overnight and ready to start the day and bring chargers daily
- Dress for the weather
- If your child will be absent or late to BOOST send us an email or phone call
Specialist Schedules (Hybrid K-2 grade)
We are so excited to begin providing grades K-2 in-person instruction in the coming weeks. To ensure your student continues to access learning from their specialist educators (Physical Education, Library, Music, and Art) your student will receive Microsoft Teams invites to be accessed during the asynchronous learning time at home. If your student attends in-person instruction in the mornings, your student will access the specialist educators in the afternoon virtually. If your student attends in-person instruction in the afternoons, your student will access the specialist educators in the morning virtually.
To accommodate this new morning and afternoon schedule, PLE has blended students that attend in-person in the mornings or afternoons from multiple homerooms together for their specialist time. Your student may see two calendar invitations within Teams from each specialist, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Students will only join the specialist time when they are at home. While in-person at school, their homeroom teacher will not have your student join the teams call virtually.
- Specialist blended schedule for 1st and 2nd grade has started already.
- Specialist blended schedule for Kindergarten will start on 2/11.
Please see the specialist schedules for each hybrid class below.
Progress Report
Progress report will be posted in ParentVUE and StudentVUE on February 12. Families can access them using their personal or student’s device if needed. Parents can request the progress report to be mailed. They need to contact Shawna directly at rooneys@bsd405.org. See below on how to access the progress report in ParentVUE and StudentVUE.
Directions for accessing Parent Vue or Student Vue:
- You have access to view progress reports on Parent Vue or Student Vue, in our learning management system. Please go to https://bsd405.org/departments/district-technology/grades-attendance/ for details on how to activate and set up your account if you have not done so already.

PTA: Yearbook
Our amazing PTA Yearbook Committee is working hard collecting photos! Please keep sending lots of pictures to show what your students have been up to! If you've got pics of your kids in classes, clubs, socially-distanced playdates or other activities, please email them to tirzahruth@gmail.com. Please be sure to include the student's name(s), teacher(s), and grade(s).
Health Check
Each student must complete the health attestation (Health Check (bsd405.org)) prior to entering the building daily. Download the app on your smart phone if you have not done so already. It makes it quick and easy to do before leaving your home.
- There are two ways to access Health Check daily: scan the code below w/ smart phone OR go to the website https://healthcheck.bsd405.org
- Add an icon to your phone or computer home screen for easy access: https://bsd405.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/BSD-Health-Check-Mobile-Home-Screen-Tip-Sheet-English.pdf

14-DAYS TRAVEL QUARANTINE GUIDANCE
We now have 14-day travel quarantine guidance on the website: https://bsd405.org/back-to-buildings-plan/faq/#quarantine
- All students and staff who travel out of state must quarantine for 14 days after returning to Washington prior to going to a school building in person.
- Individuals who will experience hardship due to a full 14-day quarantine may be eligible to reduce quarantine length per CDC
- The 1-week virtual instruction planned after mid-winter and spring breaks does not mean that 14 day quarantining is not required
- Students who travel will not miss in-person instruction the first week after these breaks because everyone will be virtual, and they can attend class virtually while in quarantine
- Students who travel will miss in-person instruction the 2nd week after these breaks because they will not be able to come in person until their quarantine is over
Please remember – the 14-day quarantine is one of our mitigating measures to lower the risk of the spread of COVID-19 in our buildings. It is a way that we can help support keeping our buildings open and students in school in person.
In-Person Technology Support for Students & Families
