Week at a Glance

A Glimpse of this Past Week...
This week started off with a BANG as our AP students dove into their tests! Thank you for all who helped as well as all of you who ensured that students were where they needed to be, and where they were not supposed to be! One more week! The schedule is still provided below for your convenience.
What an amazing turn-out for the last Academic Breakfast of the year. Can you believe it? A big thanks to Kiki and her crew who always puts out an amazing spread that everyone looks forward to devouring! Thanks to Laurie and the rest of our office staff who work to ensure all of the programs and certificates are made too! Aren't our students amazing? Without them, there would be no special breakfast!
Another quick thank you to all of our Staffulty. While we await the results of the State visit this past week, I just want to remind you that we can't do it alone... with our entire Marian team continuing to work hard together, this school will continue to thrive. Thank you!
We know that sometimes, no matter what we do, some of our students may falter... make mistakes... It is our job; our responsibility; our honor to have had each and every student who comes through these doors in our lives, no matter what. With that said, we need to remember that if anyone of the Marian family falls, we need to be compassionate, respectful, and merciful... And we need to ensure that though we are but models of this, we are also charged with continuing to guide and teach those in our care. Please remember this if you hear students joking or being disrespectful to or about someone else...if you hear inappropriate comments about this past week's unfortunate events... please stop it immediately. If you can't stop it, find Administration to help support you. We need to help our students rise up and learn from their mistakes, not allow them to be either glorified in jest or chastised in their fault.
Looking ahead...
Lot's of exciting events are happening this week! Check it out!

Music Concerts, May 15 & 16 @ 7:00 pm
These are Mr. Rome's last concerts of the year, and of his career! Please join one or both nights as we hear the wonderful choir and band sounds! It will surly be a night of magic!
Fine Arts Awards Night, May 17 @ 7:00 pm
Come watch so many of our most talented students be recognized for their dedication to the arts. Between the plays and musicals, choir and band, and visual arts, these students deserve recognition.
Have a blessed weekend and week ahead!
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY
New Spiritual Director is Announced!
We have arranged for Father to come mingle with the students on Tuesday during all lunch hours, and he will remain at Marian through the 2:30 pm mass in the chapel. If you get a chance, please come say hello!
We are planning a few more times for Father Twenty to visit before he officially starts at Marian on June 18. I am sure we will all welcome him with open arms and hearts!

Semester 2 is Quickly Coming to an End!
When preparing for Grade Meetings:
- If students are absent for the exam, put an "I" in BOTH the exam and semester 2 grades
- Make sure you hit "submit" in the gradebook for every individual course you teach
- Make sure the red "slash" is not showing when in the RC View for both the S2 EX and the Sem 2 grade columns
- If a student is absent for exams, make sure a copy of the exam with the student's name on it is left with Guidance AND if the exam can be graded by Guidance leave the key or if not provide information as to when you can come in to grade the exam(s)
If all of these simple things are taken care of, we will have a very easy and quick grade meeting!

Pray for Students taking AP Exams
Only your peace can sustain these students through the anxiety and stresses of exam nerves. Your peace surpasses all understanding. We ask this gift for our students and their ability to choose to lean upon You at this time.
Lord, come and remind our students of your unfailing love.
Remind them that You hold them safe, You understand them, and You cherish them.
Help them to lay down their fears before You.
Help them to leave them at the foot of the cross, for You have overcome the world.
We pray that these students choose to give You all their concerns, worries and fears of failure.
We trust that Your loving hand will hold our students through these exams and lead them to a bright future.
In Your name we pray,
Amen.
Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) Renewal Information from ISBE
Please read the information below on PEL renewal from ISBE if your license is up for renewal in 2018. Remember that the Diocese expects that all teachers have a current Illinois PEL in order to receive/renew their contract.
"More than 200,000 educators have licenses up for renewal this year. To put this number in perspective, approximately 60,000 educator licenses are normally up for renewal in a given year. The 2018 renewal year is much larger than usual because it is the first year that educators who were issued a substitute teaching license (SUB) or educator license with stipulations endorsed for paraprofessional (ELS-PARA) in the 2013 certificate-to-licensure exchange will be able to renew these licenses.
As licensure renewal season approaches, ISBE is focused on educators having the best experience possible with the Educator Licensure Information System. ISBE will stagger renewal periods for educators according to license type in an effort to prevent the system from overloading due to increased user traffic.
- Educators who hold a PEL and ELS-CTE license with an expiration of 6/30/2018 may renew beginning April 1.
- Educators who hold an ELS-PARA license with an expiration of 6/30/2018 may renew beginning April 15.
- Educators who hold a SUB license with an expiration of 6/30/2018 may renew beginning May 1.
The “renewal” hot link in educators’ action centers will not be activated until the dates identified above. Professional development for this renewal cycle must be completed by Aug. 31, 2018, and all licenses eligible for renewal must be renewed by Aug. 31, 2018. Please share this important information with your educators. A short video is also available. Please contact licensure@isbe.net with any questions."
