FALL FESTIVAL SIGNUPS-VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Hello everyone! Our fall festival is Saturday, November 4th 2-5pm and we need your help to make it a success!
If your family is planning on attending, please volunteer for a 30 minute shift. This ensures all the games can stay open for everyone to enjoy.
- What do volunteers do? Volunteers collect tickets and facilitate the game/activity. It is simple and fun!
- How do I sign-up online? Click on your class link below and follow the instructions on the page. It is quick and simple.
- What if I am unable to volunteer my time? You can still help! Each class is asked to donate 4 store bought cakes (or similar) for the cake walk. You will need to sign-up ONLINE at the link below. Cakes/Cookies are to be delivered Friday, 11/3 in the front office.
- Can my older student volunteer to earn service hours? Yes! Please sign your 7th-12th grader up at the following link: https://www.volunteersignup.org/WQJ38. They can report to the volunteer table to have their hours approved.

2nd Payment of $50 is DUE on or before Friday, November 3rd!! Please send in your payments ASAP!! Cash or Check payable to Bear Creek Elementary.
The total cost for both students and chaperones is $230. Below are the 2 payment plan options:
OPTION 1: Payment Plan
- $80 Initial payment (includes a $30 non-refundable deposit) DUE OCTOBER 16th
- $50 payment DUE no later than NOVEMBER 13
- $50 payment DUE no later than JANUARY 16
- $50 Final payment DUE no later than FEBRUARY 12
OPTION 2: $230 payment in full was DUE on OCTOBER 16
Humanities
- Figurative Language - Students will identify and analyze a variety of figurative language devices in a variety of texts and song lyrics. Students are creating a flip book to show understanding of the different elements. We plan to have a TEST next week on Tuesday, November 7th.
- GCISD Reads Book Challenge - students will select their challenge for this year (click the link below for details)
LANGUAGE ARTS:
- Figurative Language - Students will identify different types of figurative language devices in texts and song lyrics, as well as spice up their writing as the apply them within their narratives. We focus on similes, metaphors, hyperboles, onomatopoeia, personification, and idioms.
- WRITING - narrative writing - Spooky/scary folk tales; narrative writing hooks and leads
- VOCABULARY: Students need to sort their word cards nightly! Students will study words and their meanings via the Word Study Choice Board . Quiz on Friday, November 3rd.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
- Unit 3 - Thirteen Colonies - Students will reflect on their understanding of the geography of the Thirteen Colonies, significant founders, the colonial economic opportunities, colonial government, religious and cultural values, and identify reasons why settlers would come to one of the colonies.
- Cornerstone Task 3 - Students will research one of the 13 Colonies and take notes using a guiding template. They need to take time nightly to read and conduct research using the many links that are in Google Classroom. Students will type a colony report on Google Docs, as well as create some type of visual product of choice (poster, slideshow, etc.). Please see the RUBRIC expectations below!!
- Research - Notes are DUE on or before November 6th
- Research - Typed Report DUE on or before November 8th
- Media Presentation - DUE on or before November 13th
- Students have all of these DUE dates written in their Thirteen Colony Research Guide, and are expected also work on this ongoing project for homework. The research doubles as their nightly reading homework :)
MATH & SCIENCE
- CBA #6 - Monday, October 30th
- Unit 3 - Whole Number Operations and Order of Operations: Long Division and interpreting remainders; continue Multiplication using standard algorithms up to 3 digit by 2 digit whole numbers. 5th grade students are expected to solve multiplication problems using the traditional method.
- NIGHTLY HOMEWORK - Students need to complete the homework sheet for each corresponding day, so they are prepared for class! Students are expected to use RUBIES strategies while reading and solving problems. They MUST show their thinking for each problem.
SCIENCE:
- Ecosystems and Adaptations - Focus on Organisms in an ecosystem: producers, consumers, and decomposers, as well as Food chains, predators and prey.

Prodigy Math Tournament
All of our 5th graders have or will have a current login (username and password) from their math teachers. We are highly encouraging students to login to Prodigy for focus on math skills at home as often as they can.

Daily RESPECT is an expectation for all 5th graders at BCE! Students carry a daily Conduct Folder and bring it home weekly to communicate RESPECT to you.
