March 3, 2024
Good Afternoon,
The next two weeks bring many new adventures. Starting with no school tomorrow, 3.4.24, due to a professional day for staff. March also begins the season of State testing which you can read about below. An ALICE, Red Man Drill will be conducted on March 14th. You can utilize this information: https://www.alicetraining.com/our-program/alice-training/k12-education/age-appropriate/ to talk to your child at home. Teachers and staff will also be reinforcing safety expectations and reviewing the acronym for ALICE: Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate. We appreciate your support as we practice this important and delicate scenario in our school.
Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or administration with questions or concerns. Administrators are available to meet with parents upon requests. Feel free to call or come to the school if you have any concerns regarding your child’s education. You may also contact administrators via email:

Gr 5 Parents - Maryland Integrated Science Assessments (MISA) is heading our Way this Month!
Fifth Grade Parents~ Please look for this letter to come home:
Dear Parents/Guardians
Elk Neck Elementary fifth grade students will be taking the MCAP MISA (Science) assessments during the month of March. Each student will participate in multiple days of science testing. The purpose of the MCAP assessments are to provide us with a snapshot of how students are performing and progressing towards grade level standards. These test scores also help us to identify strengths and weaknesses in our instructional program and allow us to monitor student growth from year to year.
Please review the testing dates listed below in order to identify when your child/children will be testing. We ask that during the testing window, students arrive at school on time and well rested. Please also keep these dates in mind when scheduling appointments for students. Once a session has begun, a student cannot leave until the session is complete, except in extreme cases such as the onset of an illness. All testing will begin between 9:10 AM and 9:20 AM each morning and should be completed no later than 12:00 PM.

Parenting Tips:
Great way to help your child have a good morning at school (3 A’s):
Attention- try to not only give the “to-do” commands in the morning but also positive attention such as positive praise for having their bookbag ready or getting dressed on time.
Affection- a quick high five, hug, kiss, pat on the back, fist bump, or a wink will give your kids a sense of security and lower their anxiety
Affirmation- Your kids are listening even when you think they are not. Share encouraging words with your child and it will make their day! Examples: “Your smile lights up the room” “You have a way of making me laugh” “You are so special”
Bedtime routine- ask your child to share before bed…
Help- is there anything they need help with?
Thanks- what are they grateful for?
Wow- what is something good that happened today?
