New Covid Protocol in Schools
I wanted to let you know that the CDC has updated their recommendations for Covid-19 procedures and exclusion policies.
"The recommendations suggest returning to normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, symptoms are improving overall, and if a fever was present, it has been gone without use of a fever-reducing medication."
So there is no longer a 5 day quarantine period-or 5 days out of school.
Earth Rangers Assembly at Avalon!
Earth Rangers came from Canada to present an amazing assembly all about animals and how to take care of the Earth and our animals! The kids loved the interactive assembly and they especially loved the hologram! The students learned about habitats, camouflage and how to help keep our Earth clean! It was a lot of fun for all!

FLU Season and Other illness
Flu season is in full speed! It is very important that you keep your child home if he/she has a fever and has to take medication to reduce the fever. Your child should STAY HOME until he/she is fever free with NO MEDICATION for 24 hours. Please encourage your child to wash their hands at home, cover their cough and sneezes. At school we are using hand washing and deep cleaning measures to try to reduce the chances of students and staff from getting sick.
If your child has the stomach bug, they must remain out of school for 24 hours from the last vomit or bout with diarrhea.
If your child has seen a doctor, make sure to get a doctor's note with a return date. Also, if your child has tested positive for the flu, covid, strep or another communicable diseases please keep him/her home for the suggested time frame. These absences are documented which means they do not count. We understand that not all sickness needs a doctor's attention, however if you have any questions regarding time frame for illness, please call the office.
Please see the attached documents for helpful tips to fight the flu!

HONESTY at AVALON!
Remember that Honesty is being truthful in what we say and do. Let’s talk about what it mean to be Honest when it comes to being yourself. You are uniquely YOU and being Honest means that you feel free to show your true self to the world. Do you like pickle juice? Be YOU! Do you like cold, gloomy days? Be YOU! Do you like to wear your grandpa’s old comfy sweatshirt? Be YOU! Find some some ways to be Honest by being YOU this week.
Please see the family letters!
COLD and WARMER WEATHER!
Spring is upon us! The weather has been all over the place lately! Please make sure to check the weather daily to know how to dress your child for school!
Cold weather students will need hats, boots, gloves, coat that zips etc. Remember that we will go outside as long as the wind chill is above 20 degrees.
Warmer weather will need coats as well! Whatever you send your child to school wearing will be expected to be worn outside. Sometimes "warmer weather" in the winter can be confusing for our younger students!
LUNCH at AVALON!
Please note that we will have 2 days in March that will have a vegan option!
Please make sure that your child lets the teacher know if he/she is interested in this option!
Please make sure that your child knows if he/she is HOT LUNCH or COLD LUNCH.
Friday is PIZZA DAY. Extra pizza is $1.50. Please make sure to add money to your child's account or send money in an envelope to give to the teacher.

Note from Mrs. Saleh!
Hello families!
Please continue to send your child in winter apparel if necessary! Please make sure your child has boots and extra shoes. Remember an extra set of clothes to keep at school is helpful! Spills happen, accidents happen and recess messes happen!
Please label your child's belongings. Our students are little and sometimes forget what belongs to them. Our lost and found table is quickly growing again! I will donate any items left on Friday, March 22nd just before the Spring Break. It is very difficult to keep all of these items in our office for extended periods of time. You are welcome to come into the main office to look for your child's lost items!
Just a friendly reminder, we can't have unannounced visitors in the school or hallways during school hours. All visitors must be checked into the main office and appropriate identification must be shown. It is our top priority to keep our students and staff safe. Also, if you would like to make an appointment to meet with your child's teachers, myself or any other staff meeting, setting this up a head of time is appreciated.
Have a great week!
Mrs. Saleh
