Leonardo da Vinci
The Master Inventor of the Renaissance
By Zach Stephenson
On the date of April 15, 1452 Leonardo da Vinci was born in Vinci Italy. By the age of 18 Leonardo was studying in Florence with the artist Verrocchio, who taught many other important pupils such as Pietro Perugino and Lorenzo di Credi. It was while learning under Verricchio that Leonardo learned different skills that would later set him up to be one of the greatest men of the renaissance. Later in his life Leonardo lived in Verrocchio's home in Florence. Some people say that Leonardo wasted his life and talent in fact the term "Jack of all trades master of none" is often associated with Leonardo.
Leonardo's Accomplisheshments
Leonardo Da Vinci did many things in his lifetime such as the Mona Lisa, and The Last Supper, as well as many other famous paintings, sculptures, architecture, drawings, and inventions. Many of his ideas were either secularism or scientific naturalism.
Designs For a Flying Machine
The drawing I chose is called "Designs For a Flying Machine." It was created between 1487 and 1490. It is located in books and the original is in the Bibliotèque Nationale in Paris France. In this piece the artist proves how ahead of his time he was. This is because many people of his time didn't think humans could ever fly but he believed that they could. This drawing is of a machine that can raise a human off of the ground without the aid of wind power, which is used in kites. This piece shows Leonardo's secularism because it is about the human race. What I find interesting about this pice is that there aren't any other pieces like it from other artists of his day.
