Important message regarding education and other funding: Please complete a Meal Benefits Application
Parents, please consider applying for meal benefits as soon as possible. For every student that turns in the free and reduced lunch application and qualifies, the school receives federal funds that benefit the student and teachers at the school. These funds provide additional teachers and staff for the school which means more services for students, especially students that are struggling in reading or math. These funds also are used for materials and supplies for students and teachers. These are valuable resources that teachers can use to improve student achievement.
Also, the NC Department of Health & Human Services is collecting student free and reduced lunch and attendance data from WCPSS to determine any additional Pandemic Electronic Benefits (P-EBT) that will be issued in the coming months! By not applying for these meal benefits, you will miss the potential opportunity to receive direct P-EBT funds for your family!
Character Strength: Prudence
This week in Positivity Project, we will be focusing on the character strength of prudence. Prudence means you plan for the future and achieve your goals by making careful everyday choices.
Prudence is the ability to do the right thing for the right reason, at the right time. It’s a future-oriented way of thinking that helps a person set goals, make plans, and have the discipline to accomplish them. It is cognitive -- more a strength of the head than of the heart.
Prudence supports effective individual self-management. Whether aspiring for an athletic record, academic grade, or purchasing a car, foresight and planning are necessary. However, even with a plan, long-term goals can only be obtained by overcoming those impulses and desires that steer you away from your goals. Prudence provides the wisdom to know which character strength to leverage, at which time, to achieve your desired end state.
To practice and encourage the character strength of prudence with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2) where together you will watch a video, read a quote and talk about the answers to three questions.
Absence Notes!
If your student misses school for anything besides an illness, please communicate with your child's teacher AND send a note confirming why your child was out. Students who miss school and return without a note, will be sent to the care center and a parent will be contacted.
Thank you for your help in ensuring the health and safety of our staff and students.
Our Eagle Family Food Pantry is OPEN!
Our school food pantry is officially open!!!
We understand food security can be a challenge especially during the pandemic when families have to focus on paying rent, utilities, medical bills, and other financial stressors. Food should not be something that families have to worry about. That is why Vandora Springs is providing our families with a school pantry.
If your family is ever need of food or support with other basic needs, please reach out to our school social worker, Helen Nguyen at ptnguyen@wcpss.net or 919-662-2486 ext. 26157.
