This Wednesday, April 10th,
is a 12:15 Early Dismissal.
Note from Ms. Moulton
Greetings Hosmer Families!
ELA MCAS is this week!
Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will take the state test on Tuesday, April 9th and Thursday, April 11th. Please refrain from scheduling appointments of vacations on these days as it is important that students be in school all day. Thank you in advance.
Dance Parties & Silly Stringing Ms. Moulton on Wednesday!
It's time to do the Silly Stringing that kids earned as part of Boosterthon! We will do this outside on the asphalt part of the yard on Wednesday. Older grade buddies will "pick'-up" there younger buddies so that buddy lasses come together. We will make a large circle outside so everyone can see. As for who does the stringing...on Wednesday morning, each class should have a raffle/pull a popsicle stick to select the lucky "stringer"!
Grades 2 and 3 both reached 60% registration for Boosterthon, earning a grade level dance party! These will also happen on Wednesday on the cafeteria stage!
Hosmer Hosts Joint Diversity Council Meeting this Thursday
Join us on Thursday April 11th from 6:30 to 8pm at Hosmer in person for the joint DBC meeting for Hosmer, Lowell, and Cunniff.
We will have guests from the Watertown Free Public Library, Director Kim Hewitt and WFPL staff members, as well as elementary school library and media staff, and the K-12, Digital Learning & Library director, Dr. Susan Bisson. Dr. Ceronne Daly, WPS DEIB director will be there as well! We will learn about WFPL's You Belong Campaign and how the WPS libraries work to build and maintain an inclusive catalog and foster belonging in their spaces.
We will have food from Ritcey East and childcare will be provided by WHS students. We hope to see you there! Please use this link to RSVP (even if you end up not being able to make it, this will help us with planning): https://docs.google.com/.../1FAIpQLSdtxYXTyE1BED.../viewform

Class Placement Next Year - Input form for Caregivers
If you have information that the classroom teacher may not be aware of, you may share via this form, no later than Friday, April 12th. Please do not feel compelled to submit a form unless there is something beyond our knowledge you think will directly impact our work in creating a placement for your child. These forms will be shared with the teaching team as part of the placement determination process. Placement assignments do not go out until the summer due to potential shifts in staffing, etc., but it is important that we get your input in the earliest stages.
In order to support the needs of all children, requests for specific teachers will not be honored. Please do not request specific teachers by name. Additionally, please do not send requests to place your child with particular friends, as all students will be sent to their new class with “familiar faces.” However, if an older sibling has had a teacher and you would like to have your younger sibling have a different teacher, we will try our best to honor that request.
Whether you submit a form or not, you can be sure your child will be placed in a classroom in which he or she can grow academically, emotionally, and socially. We thank you for your understanding and your ongoing support.
Solar Eclipse Safety - Monday 4/8
On Monday, April 8, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the U.S., and Canada. A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk. While no place in Massachusetts will see the sun completely disappear, some parts of the state will see a shadow cover 95 percent of the sun, if weather permits. The eclipse will begin shortly after 2 p.m. and will last about two and a half hours until about 4:30 p.m.
The MA DESE recognizes that the eclipse may overlap with dismissal for many Massachusetts schools and recommends preparing students to safely experience the eclipse. This means instructing and reminding students not to look directly at the eclipse without proper eye protection. While the eclipse begins shortly after 2pm, the peak of the eclipse will not be until 3:30 pm.
Looking Ahead to Next Year

Evening Event for Grade 3 Families with Our Music Teacher, Ms. Ritter
Art Show Note from Mrs. Kim
The annual WPS Art Show includes artwork from Watertown students K-12. We are thrilled for the chance to bring our community together in support of our young artists. Students whose work will be on display will be notified through email (based on parent/caregiver emails in PowerSchool) by April 2.
Where and When:
The show is up Tuesday, April 9th - Wednesday, May 1st at the Watertown Mall. Because the Watertown Mall is a public place, you are welcome to see the artwork at any time during mall open hours while the show is up.
Opening Reception:
The Opening Reception is Tuesday, April 9th from 5pm-7pm at the Watertown Mall. There will be live music, and it's a chance for the community to gather and celebrate our students. Everyone, regardless of if your student's work is representing Hosmer in the art show, is invited to the reception.
A reminder from Nurse Mikayla:
All fourth graders need to submit a physical exam before the end of their fourth grade school year. Please send in a copy of your child's physical exam to school, or email a screenshot from your patient portal to Mikayla.MacIntyre@watertown.k12.ma.us - whichever is more convenient for you! If you have already submitted your fourth grader's annual physical, please disregard this message. Thank you in advance!"

Fifth Grade Yearbook
Hello, fifth grade families! A few parent volunteers are going to create a short yearbook for students to remember their last year at the Hosmer.
You can submit candid photos for us to include! The yearbook will include every student’s school picture and space for notes/autographs. If you would like to submit up to 3 candid photos of your child, please visit https://plicbooks.com/go/KBN6VG to upload them by Friday, March 22. There is a field where you can type in a “tag” for the photo(s)—you can put the names of people in the photo there so we can be sure everyone is represented (note, there will not be captions in the yearbook). Feel free to send in baby photos, more recent ones, groups of 5th graders...whichever you prefer.
Yearbooks will be available at the end of the school year.
If you have any questions, please email Laura Daly at lauramaclaughlin@yahoo.com. Thank you!
