CSA Lincoln Newsletter
Friday, November 15th
Thank you for your service!
Happy Friday!
We started the week by honoring 26 veterans during our Veterans Day Convocation (see background photo). Bobbie Watts, the grandfather to Ethan and Annalynne, recalled that five years ago, we only had four or five veterans attend the event. It is wonderful to see this number continue to grow each year. My favorite part of the event is playing the Armed Forces Medley and our students cheering for our veterans as they stand during their respective songs. One of these days, I'm going to remember to film that portion of the ceremony. This year, we did capture a photo of each veteran with their Huskies. Those are included in this newsletter.
- Next Tuesday, BCSC schools will be closed for Red for Ed Action Day. Please see Dr. Roberts' message for details.
- It is hard to believe, but the enrollment window is coming up quickly. We will start accepting applications for the 2020-2021 School Year on December 1st, 2019. Please feel free to share this brochure with any families you think may be interested in joining the Husky family!
- Best of luck to our LEGO Robotics Team! The regional competition is tomorrow at FFY. We know they will represent us well!
- Our Spell Bowl Team will compete next Monday, November 18th. The event is held at Southside Elementary and begins at 5 p.m. Let's go, team!
- While the BCSF Stars did not win the game against the Harlem Wizards, the event was a success because no one was injured! Thank you for supporting BCSF!
Have a great weekend,
Brett
BCSC Schools will be closed Tuesday, November 19th, 2019
Message from Dr. Roberts
BCSC Closed - Tuesday, November 19, 2019
As indicated in our previous joint statement with the Columbus Educators Association, BCSC has continued to evaluate our teacher participation in Red For Ed Action Day on Tuesday, November 19. Given the number of staff members that have requested personal days, BCSC will be closed on Tuesday, November 19, and school will now be in session on Tuesday, March 10. (Monday, March 9 will be used to make up for school having to be closed on Tuesday, November 12.)
Although some school corporations are conducting an e-learning day on November 19, BCSC is instead choosing to make up the day for two reasons: (1) our school board-approved calendar already includes a schedule for make-up days with March 10 being the second one listed, and (2) staff members participating in the Red for Ed Action Day are not available to interact with students as designed for our e-learning option. Hopefully, our advance communication of closing on November 19 allows ample time for our parents and community partners to make alternative arrangements for students.
We appreciate the effort of BCSC staff members to participate in the Red for Ed Action Day in an attempt to enact change at the state level for public education and hope that elected officials pay close attention to their message. The increasing financial constraints that our school corporation faces are many and will continue to present challenges that require ongoing support from our community and state legislators.
Dr. Jim Roberts
