PRINCIPAL'S POINT
We are coming to a close to the end of the school year! This year moved fast and it has been amazing to watch each student have academic and social growth. Our Bobcats have done an outstanding job and we are proud of each of them!
We are ending state testing and we appreciate the hard work and dedication by each of the students in grades 3-8. The end of the year brings a TON of fun! Field trips, Track Day, Field Day and much more! It is a great way to cap a year of heard work, learning, and individual growth. We hope all the kids and family enjoy the celebrations.
Summer School is FAST APPROACHING! The theme this year is "Battle of the Bobcats" which will be tied to a theme around Games, Strategies, and Competitions. We have FUN daily activities, three field trips (Onondaga Cave K-8, Union Pool 3-8, Washington Movie Theater K-2, and Owensville Water park K-8), and a ton of special events. There is an attendance prize of $75 for 100% attendance or $40 for missing only one day. It will be a fun time for all and there is still time to sign-up (just contact the elementary office).
Please work hard to have your kids reading each and every day during the summer! This will help prevent the summer slump.
Thanks,
Wayne Dierker

Staff Meets New Principal
Staff members were able to spend some time getting to know our new Principal, Shannon Banderman. Banderman joined the group at a staff meeting on April 11. Banderman, who will join the district for the 2022-2023 school year, states she is very excited to become the principal of Lonedell R14. "I love learning new things and am very passionate about student growth, both academically and socially. Inspiring students to be the very best version of themselves and helping them to realize their full potential has always been my number one goal. I am looking forward to supporting the Lonedell staff as they continue the amazing work they do to ensure that every student finds success."
Banderman is a 21 year educator, working at Franklin County Special Education Cooperative, St. Clair Elementary, and South Point Elementary. She resides in St. Clair with her husband Brad and two sons, Clay and Kyle. Some of the things she enjoys are spending time with family and friends, reading, and completing crafts. We are so excited to have her join our #r14family!
Title 1 Tidbits
Helping Your Child Succeed in Math
Problem Solving is an important component of mathematics:
Problem Solving in math is more than finding answers to word problems. Problem solving helps your child show his understanding of mathematics and build new mathematical knowledge. It is the the process through which your child will develop mathematical ideas.
Problem solving helps your child build skills that can be applied in other situations. When your child is solving problems, she is learning to break problems up into smaller parts, make plans, and judge the effectiveness of those plans, select tools to accomplish the plan, and prove and share her ideas.
Use these strategies with your child:
Make a list
Draw a diagram/Make a model
Use objects/Act it out
Make a table
Find a Pattern
Chose an operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
Guess, Check, and Revise
Work backward
Use Logical Reasoning
Students may have to use a combination of strategies to solve a problem. Encourage them to try different strategies—there is often more than one way to solve a problem!
It is important that these problem solving strategies are talked about as well as practiced. Encouraging your child to explain his plan for solving, or discuss the reasonableness of his answer, helps to develop mathematical language and reasoning.

New Board Members Sworn In
At the April 11th Lonedell R14 School Board Meeting, our newly elected and reelected members took the oath of office. James Heideman was sworn in by Superintendent, Jenny Ulrich, for his second term, and Cody Causey was sworn in for his first joining other members, Brad Rucker, Rachelle Meek, Jamie Dunn, Justin Bailey, and Katie Komo . Causey replaces Daniel Short who served on the board for 14 years. "It has been a pleasure serving with all of you, and I know you are in good hands," stated Short.
After the swearing in, officers were nominated and put into their positions. Heideman will be the Board President, with Rucker serving as Vice President, and Meek serving as the Treasurer. Sarah Grus will again serve as Secretary to the Board. We would like to thank each of our members for their dedicated service to the students and staff of the Lonedell R14 School District.
Student Athletes Celebrated
We recently honored our student athletes at the Sports Banquet. These students have worked so hard in their chosen sport, as well as academics, attendance, and being amazing student leaders. Our Sports Boosters provided a wonderful meal for the athletes and their families. Thank to Mrs. Jenny Wachter who talked to our students about the important take aways from being an athlete. "Have fun, set goals, and be a team player. If you do these three things, everything else will work itself out!"
Each athlete was honored by their coaches, Mrs. Dace, Mr. Gliedt, Mrs. Hill, and Ms. Cox and Ms. Pruitt who highlighted the important parts of their seasons and spoke about all their teams had accomplished. Finally, our Mr. and Miss Lonedell were announced by Dr. Dierker. Congratulations to Lindsay R. and Joshua R. who were selected by their teachers. To finish off the night, Outgoing Sports Booster President, Amanda Brandt, announced the new officers and encouraged all to take part in this important organization that funds all of the sports in our district.
