Superintendent Dr. Melissa Kaczkowski introduced three educators who have received honors this school year. Forest Glen Elementary School 4th grade teacher Mrs. Jorie Dragas was selected as the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce D41 Educator of the year and was honored at the Glen Ellyn Community Awards on March 12. Hadley Junior High School teacher Mrs. Dina Sbarra and Benjamin Franklin Elementary School 5th grade teacher Mrs. Suzi Smith have been honored by the Illinois School Board of Education with Those Who Excel Awards. Mrs. Sbarra received the Award of Meritorious Service and Mrs. Smith received the Award of Special Recognition. Congratulations to our educators!

Student Attribute Presentation: Forest Glen Elementary School | watch
Principal Scott Klespitz and Digital Literacy Specialist Marcie Callicoat introduced the attribute “curiosity” with a video presentation. CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE VIDEO
The Forest Glen Environmental Club One Earth students, led by Library Media Aide Kathleen Hokenson, also presented about why they are curious about the planet and what action they have taken at school to support the environment. | watch
Literacy Curriculum Presentation | watch
Assistant Superintendent for Teaching, Learning and Accountability Dr. Kris Webster introduced the new literacy curriculum recommendation HMH Into Reading, Arriba La Lectura, and Into Literature. She shared information about the curriculum review process, timeline, costs, as well as feedback from pilot teachers, parents and students. Dr. Webster introduced Senior Literacy Content Specialist with HMH Andrea Clinewit, as well as HMH representatives Dina Newsom and Stephanie Cantu. Ms. Clinewit shared in depth information about the HMH curriculum resources. Board members asked questions and engaged in conversation about HMH.

Dr. Kaczkowski and Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Dr. David Bruno provided a follow up to a Board discussion at the last meeting about mental health screening. Dr. Kaczkowski also introduced one of the district’s mental health consultants, Dr. Brenda Huber, who explained how an SEL screener fits into a school district’s approach to MTSS on the Social Emotional side of the pyramid.

Dr. Kaczkowski presented the School Board Calendar proposal for next school year.
Hadley Auditorium Enhancements | watch
Director of Instructional Technology and Innovation Andrew Peterman provided information about Hadley Junior High auditorium usage and the need for updates to the auditorium. The D41 Kids Foundation has offered to partner with the district to enhance auditorium equipment. He described the equipment needs and the $20,000 donation offered by the foundation for Hadley auditorium enhancements.

Dr. Webster followed up about the costs presented earlier in the board meeting. She expressed that the costs were only estimates and that final costs will be presented at the next meeting.

Board Governance/Learning Together | watch
President Bruno introduced the idea of holding a future Board meeting in Glendale Heights where approximately 300 of our families live within our boundaries. The Board gave consensus to hold the regular Board meeting in May in Glendale Heights if logistics can be worked out.
