Our Mission
The mission of the WPS Performing Arts program is to prepare students to be artistically literate citizens and for lifelong engagement in the arts. Through the cyclical artistic process of creating, performing, responding and connecting to and through artistic works, students will become creative, collaborative, and persistent problem solvers in the global community.
It's Common Assessment Time!
Between January 17 and January 27, elementary music teachers will assess one class in grade 4 or kindergarten using the new common assessments. At our January 30th, staff meeting, we will begin analyzing our results and identifying our next steps. Please contact Lisa Leach if you have questions about implementation.
Focus on Key Ideas and Details: Making Connections with Folk Songs and Images
Many folk songs and games are great resources for literacy exploration and help personalize the learning. When students play and sing, they can retell stories and identify characters and setting. For example, after playing Thorn Rosa (a version of Sleeping Beauty), students use visuals to share the sequence of events.
