Dear Families,
Thank you for your tremendous participation in parent conferences. Our schools reported high levels of attendance at conferences. Your partnership and support has been noticed and deeply appreciated. We are looking forward to the return of all students to our campuses beginning on Monday, April 12th. The start of our Phase 3 is truly a milestone and one we have been working diligently to plan and achieve.
California Department of Public Health
Recently, you may have heard that the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) shifted the 4 feet minimum distancing for student desks to a strongly recommending 6 feet with a minimal recommendation of 3 feet. The latest 3 feet allowance is great news in a variety of ways. For EUSD, we have already reconfigured our classes to meet a 4 feet minimum with 6 feet to the greatest extent possible so research showing less is still positive news for us. It also means we do not need to make any adjustments to our current arrangements for Phase 3. It also makes re-opening for districts that have not because of space and resources easier. We know it is important for all children to be back in school in all grade levels kindergarten through twelve grade.
We know safety continues to be a priority for all us as we transition to Phase 3. EUSD will continue to heed recommendations and guidance as required by our COVID-19 Safety Plan. The layering of mitigation strategies is still critical and we will continue to be deliberate and intentional in addressing student safety. In doing so, we aim to continue the progress we have ensured in keeping our students and staff safe as we expand the number of students on campus and in classrooms.
2021-2022 School Year & Reminders
We know that many are anxious about what the 2021-2022 school year will look like and what the COVID-19 situation will be at that time. To view the 2021-2022 school calendar, please click here. For EUSD, we will continue to share that we are anticipating a return to full in-person learning at the regular (pre-COVID-19) schedule for the 2021-2022 school year: 8:00 a.m. - 2:20 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. on Fridays. This would continue to include mitigation strategies as needed and suggested – including, but not limited to distancing, masks and other protocols currently in place. Classroom sizes and spacing will be based on distancing guidance at that time. As we are all aware, the guidance has continued to shift and change many times so we will be prepared to adjust.
Spring Break
We wish you a safe and relaxing Spring Break. At this time, California has suggested guidance for travel that includes avoiding non-essential travel. See CDPH’s Travel Advisory for more details. Please enjoy this special time with your families!
We look forward to seeing all students and staff reunited on campus on April 12th.
Warmly,
Andrée Grey, Ed.D.
