TRIUMF/LSBC YOUNG ENGINEERINGS AND SCIENTISTS FELLOWSHIP
TRIUMF (www.triumf.ca) and Life Sciences British Columbia (LSBC http://lifesciencesbc.ca) are proud to announce the formation of the successor to the High School Fellowship program:
The Young Engineers and Scientists (YES!) Fellowship (http://www.triumf.ca/academic-programs/awards-fellowships/yes-fellowship) offers six-week summer research experiences to graduating secondary students in British Columbia entering their first year at a recognized post-secondary institution. The Fellowship includes an award of $3,000. The intent of the YES Fellowship is to motivate graduating students with a passionate interest in science to pursue a research career by offering them the opportunity to experience a real life research environment.
A minimum of three positions will be offered at TRIUMF, for whom travel and housing allowances will be offered to students from outside Metro Vancouver who need it. These students will have taken Math 12 and Physics 12 (or equivalents) and are interested in pursuing a degree in the physical sciences or engineering. The C. Gordon Lindsay CSSE Engineering Award will be offered once again.
A further three or more positions will be offered by the LSBC for placements at local companies and/or research institutions (e.g. Centre for Drug Rsearch and Development at UBC http://www.cdrd.ca). This year the positions are limited to students who do not require travel or housing allowances. These students will have taken one of Biology, Chemistry or Physics 12, and are interested in pursuing a degree in the life sciences.
Otherwise, the program will function much as before, with placement dates starting in first week of July going on for six or seven weeks.

We offer opportunities for Grade 11 and 12 youth to be paid members of our Youth Get It Interns. They work as community ambassadors and as Member Service Representatives helping our members in our branches.
Being a Youth Get It Intern is a job that requires professionalism and a friendly and helpful attitude. Students will gain skills like leadership, community relations and financial literacy that prepare them for their future endeavours.

UBC UPDATES
How UBC makes admissions decisions
All students who did not receive a first round offer or who applied after December 1 are currently being evaluated for admission. Find out how UBC makes admissions decisions and when students can expect their admissions decision.
On-campus housing application deadline
UBC guarantees on-campus housing for the Winter Session (September to April) for high school students who are beginning studies on either campus. The application deadline for students to secure their first-year housing guarantee is May 1. Learn more about the first-year housing guarantee on our Okanagan and Vancouver campuses.
Students must apply for housing on the campus or campuses where they have applied to study. Only one housing application fee is required. More information is available on the "How To Apply" pages for our Okanagan and Vancouver campuses.
The Student Housing Supplement Grant provides financial support for eligible first-year undergraduate domestic students who will be living on campus with Student Housing and Hospitality Services. First-year students who apply for residence will be automatically considered. Please see the Student Housing Supplement Grant page for information about eligibility.
Major Entrance Scholarships and the Centennial Scholars Entrance Award
UBC will contact all applicants who are being considered for a Major Entrance Scholarship by the end of day on April 27. Only applicants who are being considered for a Major Entrance Scholarship will be contacted.
If a student submitted an application for the Centennial Scholars Entrance Award in the 2018/19 academic year, UBC will notify him or her of a decision by May 15.
Destination UBC and UBC Welcomes You
Admitted students will receive invitations to join spring events taking place on campus.
Events on UBC's Okanagan campus:
- Destination UBC (May 11 to 13) is a program for high school students who have been admitted to the Okanagan campus. Participants will get to connect with the UBC community and start preparing for life as a UBC student. Students travelling from outside the Okanagan Valley are invited to stay for the entire weekend and are eligible for a travel reimbursement. Students who are local to the Okanagan are invited to participate in a single-day event.
- Admitted high school students who self-identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit are also invited to the Indigenous Welcome (May 10).
Events on UBC's Vancouver campus:
- High school students who have been admitted to the Vancouver campus and who self-identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit are invited to the Destination UBC Aboriginal Student Welcome (April 27 to 29) and may be eligible for a travel reimbursement.
- UBC Welcomes You (April 28) is a half-day informational event designed for all students who have been admitted to the Vancouver campus. Students will get to connect with the UBC community and start preparing for life as a UBC student. Travel reimbursements are not available for this program.
International students in Canada
Admitted international students can connect with us live via UBC’s online sessions in March. We’ll cover what to expect after being admitted to UBC, important tips for transitioning successfully to life at UBC, specific information on faculties and programs, and much more.

Let your students know that they can connect with UBC on their favourite social media channels:
- Snapchat: Our popular student takeovers give current students a chance to share authentic stories. Recent takeovers offered a glimpse at on-campus housing and living, two students who run the TEDx event, and a day in the life of a varsity athlete.
- Facebook (and Facebook Messenger) and Twitter: Students can connect with UBC advisors to get their questions answered. They'll also find deadline reminders, slice-of-life content, and details about upcoming events.
- Instagram: Students will find posts about campus life, the student experience, current student stories, deadline reminders, and in-the-moment campus events and activities.
SAIL COURSES AND SFU DEADLINES
An important reminder for students applying to SFU
If you are using a SAIL course as part of your competitive admissions average at SFU, your course completion deadline is April 20th. If you complete your course after this date SAIL will not be able to provide a final mark for you to meet SFU’s deadlines.

Accepting an offer
The deadline to accept an offer of admission is June 1, 2018, unless otherwise stated in Bear Tracks. Students can view and accept their offer in Bear Tracks at uab.ca/beartracks
Application deadlines extended
Some faculties have extended their deadlines for application for admission. The Faculty of Arts, Campus Saint Jean, and the Faculty of Native Studies have extended their deadlines to April 1.

DOUGLAS COLLEGE ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIPS
Entrance Awards and Scholarships are available to students entering Douglas College in September directly from high school. The deadline to submit online applications is April 1, 2018.
Students can apply for the Douglas College Entrance Awards and Scholarships through a single online application between February 1, 2018 and April 1, 2018.
Each candidate for an Entrance Scholarship or Award is required to submit:
•a completed application form
•an official transcript showing final marks for Grade 11 and interim marks for Grade 12,
•Evidence of community and/or school involvement. Students can list their activities with dates in the appropriate section of the online application
•Letters of reference
If students are wishing to be considered for Entrance Awards they must include:
• a letter outlining personal and/or family financial circumstances
• a reference letter from a high school counsellor attesting to their financial need.
Additional supporting documentation can be forwarded to financialaid@douglascollege.ca . All documentation must be attached to a single email with the subject line "Douglas College Entrance Scholarship," quoting the student’s full name and Douglas student number in the body of the text.
RETAIL AS A CAREER SCHOLARSHIP
To be considered for one of the scholarships applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Enrolled full-time or part-time at a Canadian college or university Fall 2018
- Pursuing a retail, business, fashion, marketing or any other retail related post secondary program
- Currently working part-time or full-time within the retail industry
If you are not in one of these programs or attending school in Fall 2018, your application will NOT be considered.
Complete the online application form by April 3rd, 2018.
GIRL GUIDES OF CANADA SCHOLARSHIP
The National Scholarship program recognizes our members' achievements while supporting them as they pursue their educational goals and rewarding career paths.
Scholarships are open to girl and adult members who are pursuing post-secondary education at a recognized college, university or trades program. Whether you're studying engineering, education, political science, or anything in between, there's a scholarship that's right for you!
Guiding involvement and participation are important criteria in the awarding of National Scholarships.
Scholarships are available for both full-time and part-time studies.
General Requirements for all Applicants:
- Applicants must be currently registered GGC members.
- Scholarships are conditional on acceptance or continuation in a full-time or part-time program at a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Recognized post-secondary institutions include universities, colleges and vocational schools where high school completion is the normal entrance requirement (unless entering as an adult student).
Applicants must remain a member of Girl Guides of Canada for the upcoming 2018-2019 Guiding year.
Deadline for applications is April 9th, 2018.
ICBABC ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
The Indo-Canadian Business Association of BC (ICBABC) is proudly celebrating our 19th Annual Student “Achievement Awards” Banquet on Friday, May 11th 2018. It is with great pleasure that we once again extend an invitation to students to apply for the ICBABC Scholarships.
ICBABC’s Annual Student Achievement Awards support outstanding students as they further pursue their academic endeavors within a post-secondary institution. The vision of the awards program is to invest in and develop strong leaders who demonstrate academic excellence, community involvement, a moral force of character, instincts to lead, and commitment to intellectual and personal development.
Academic achievement is the foundational requirement of the scholarship, however, we will also award two Athletic Achievement Awards and one Special Needs Award, in addition to the existing Academic Awards.
The deadline to submit applications is April 11th, 2018.

BCGEU SCHOLARSHIPS

ADOPTIVE FAMILIES ASSOCIATION OF BC (AFABC) BURSARIES
The Adoptive Families Association of BC Bursary Program offers two bursaries, designed to enhance educational outcomes for BC youth. The funds are intended to assist in supporting youth during their studies including but not limited to: costs of tuition, costs directly and indirectly related to post-secondary.
The Howard Legacy Youth Fund was launched in 2014, with a donation from Peggy Howard, and is made available to applicants who are current or former youth in care.
The AFABC Youth Bursary was launched in 2015, with funding from the Adoptive Families Association of BC, and accepts applications from youth who have joined their family by legal adoption.
Both Bursaries allow for annual scholarships that will be awarded once per year, to two individuals for each bursary, at $1,000 each.
Application deadline is April 30, 2018.
Completed applications will be accepted, in person, by mail or electronic delivery, until 11:59pm on April 30, 2018. No late applicants will be considered. Winners will be announced June 1, 2018 and funds are received after August 30, 2018.
Howard Legacy Youth Fund - Eligibility Requirements
- You are currently in care or a former youth in care of the BC Ministry of Children & Family Development (MCFD) or Delegated Aboriginal Agency. Either under a Continuing Custody Order (CCO) or Temporary Custody Order (TCO), Voluntary Care Agreement (VCA) or Special Care Agreement or Youth Agreement in B.C.
- You are currently a BC resident.
- You are over 17, and under 26 years of age, on the date of the bursary application deadline.
- You are registered in a vocational, trade or academic post-secondary program at an accredited BC school.
AFABC Youth Bursary - Eligibility Requirements
- You have joined your family by legal adoption.
- You are currently a BC resident.
