What you really need to know
No AM Kindergarten this Thursday, December 8, for our final conference day for the fall. Which is convenient because winter is just about to start.
We had our first fire drill and our first ALICE drill in the past two weeks. The children were prepared and followed instructions beautifully. It seems as though we are all comfortable with the procedures in place and are able to exit the building quickly and safely.
Thanks to Atticus's Mom, Libby, who introduced us to the author Dallas Clayton. She shared The Awesome Book of Thanks. Click on the link and keep scrolling right to see all of the pages. Atticus's family has also loaned us other books from Clayton's collection. Thank you!
Thank you to Molly's sister, Madi, who took a few minutes from her busy schedule in second grade to read us an Elephant and Piggie story, The Thank You Book. Huge hit would be an understatement. Madison will be invited back as our go-to substitute if I ever get the flu.
Happy Birthday to our newest six year old classmate, Cynthia!!

What we've been up to.
- In math we have continued our work with the concepts of before/after, more/less/same/equal and have been exploring and building with pattern block shapes. We've also introduced the concept of symmetry. See our photo gallery on Bloomz to have a look at the owl pictures we made on our iPads with the app Pattern Shapes
- As we continue our study of nocturnal animals we have identified spiders, mice, skunks, raccoons, opossums, foxes, moths, moles and other creatures as night animals. We had fun "reading and writing the room" in a search for nocturnal animal pictures.
- We read the stories The Very Busy Spider and Night Animals and identified all of the the characters in each book.
- Our dramatic play center has become a cookie shop! We will be "baking" gingerbread cookies and whatever else your bakers can think up. Feel free to help them write their own recipes at home.
- We have been getting our yoga on in kindergarten. We have learned warrior, advanced warrior, stick and triangle poses. And there's a reason why I'm a kindergarten teacher and not a yoga instructor, but I'm doing my best. Namaste.
- We enjoyed an awesome performance of Fairy Circus (featuring a close encounter with a gigantic tarantula and a water-squirting flower) with the Tanglewood marionettes. Thanks to Colin's mom, Pam, for arranging this performance!
