Miss Holz's First Grade News
Our First Week
Welcome!
Can you believe that the first week of first grade has come and gone? The first few days were jam packed full of learning what it means to be a first grader. Here's a little recap of our first week:
- We learned about the Woodland Way. We learned our Body Basics and Line Basics.
- We learned what Community Share is and began sharing our writing with our class. (These sheets will often be sent back home with your child for parents to see some of the amazing writing happening at school.)
- We learned classroom and recess expectations. We are PROS by now!
- We learned what Independent Reading and Independent Writing looks like and got to experience these two things for short periods of time. We are working on building up our STAMINA. As the year progresses, we hope to increase our stamina for independent literacy to 30 minutes.
- We shared stories and read alouds about first grade. We came to the consensus that we are all in this together!
- We are continuously learning what it means to be an independent problem solver. Ms. Holz is encouraging your child to be as independent as possible.
The list could go on and on...we had a very busy week in first grade. Your students have been working very hard to learn all the procedures and expectations of first grade. I am so proud of them!
Working Out the Kinks...
There has been a little confusion in regard to buying milk at lunchtime. Those friends who bring a cold lunch from home have the option to buy milk one of two ways in the bathroom. They can buy the milk with $0.40 OR buy the milk with credit on their lunch account. If you child is purchasing milk using his/her lunch account, make sure they are aware of this when they come to school in the morning. You may also write it down on their Busy Week sheet to guarantee that I am aware. Please let me know if you have any questions!
Dr. Doleysh Comes to Visit
We got to meet the newest face in the building...Dr. Doleysh. This made our week! He came into our classroom and introduced himself to us, he even let us ask any question we wanted to know about him. We can't wait for him to come back!
Communication
Please know that the classroom door is always open. If you ever have a question or concern, please stop on by! Emails and phone calls are always welcome as well. I want your experience to be just as pleasant as your child. I'm looking forward to working together this school year.
