DMS Delivers
March 28, 2024
Dear DMS Families,
MCAS testing started this week with Grades 5 and 6. We are so proud of how hard students worked each day. Thank you for ensuring that your child had their Chromebooks charged, and ready for the morning of their grade level assessment. This really makes a difference in our morning and is much appreciated.
As me move into next week, Grade 6 will finish ELA on Tuesday, and Grade 7 will begin on Wednesday. On testing days, it is important that students arrive to school on time, as to not have to participate in a make- up session on another school day. While we know that things do come up unexpectedly, we are hoping that you will notify our Main Office if you are aware in advance of any appointments where students will be dismissed from school on testing days. This will help us determine if they should participate in a make- up session instead. Thank you in advance for your partnership as we move through MCAS season.
In addition, it is important that students get a good night's rest, as well as have some breakfast before they arrive. Students are also able to get their breakfast in the cafeteria, as is typical each morning until 8:10 a.m.
As a reminder, there is no school tomorrow. Below you will find information on the end of Term III, and the upcoming solar eclipse, as well as 8th grade course selections for DRRHS and a clothing drive sponsored by our 8th grade Project 351 Ambassador.
Have a great week!

A Message from DRRSD about the Upcoming Solar Eclipse
On Monday, April 8, 2024, there will be a Total Solar Eclipse around 2:00 pm, lasting about 2 hours until 4:30 pm. While no location in Massachusetts will experience totality, it is important to take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of your children during the upcoming solar eclipse. We have also contacted Bloom bus company to inform them of the solar eclipse and asked for their cooperation in being mindful during this event. Here are some important do's and don'ts to keep in mind:
Do:
If possible, provide your children with proper eye protection, such as solar eclipse glasses, to prevent eye damage from looking directly at the sun during the eclipse.
Educate your children about the importance of not looking directly at the sun without protection.
If your child is home, supervise them during the eclipse to ensure they are using eye protection properly.
Take advantage of this educational opportunity to teach your children about the science behind solar eclipses and the significance of this natural phenomenon.
Don’t:
Allow your children to look directly at the sun without proper eye protection, which can cause permanent eye damage.
Assume that regular sunglasses or makeshift eye protection, such as homemade filters, are safe for viewing the eclipse. Downplay the importance of eye safety during the eclipse, which can lead to retinal damage or blindness.
By following these suggestions and precautions, you can help ensure your children have a safe and enjoyable experience during the upcoming solar eclipse. Below you can find resources regarding the Total Solar Eclipse.

DRRHS Course Selections- Grade 8 ONLY
Last week, and in conjunction with DRRHS staff, grade 8 students worked with their counselors and teachers to make course selections for 9th grade. Students should be sharing their course selections with parents/guardians, as it is crucial that conversations regarding their scheduling decisions occur at home as well.
To view your student's course schedule in ASPEN/X2:
1. Log in as student or parent.
2. Click on "My Info" top tab.
3. Click on "Requests" side tab.
Completed schedules must have exactly 35 credits listed at the top. A larger number means course(s) must be dropped. A lower number means course(s) must be added.
If you have any questions regarding course selections for DRRHS, please reach out to Mr. Andrade, DMS Guidance Counselor, at aandrade@drregional.org. Further information was also sent home by Mr. Andrade on Tuesday.

Welcome to the 2024 Hannaford Helps Schools Program!
Now in its 25th year, the Hannaford Helps Schools program has raised over $18 million for local schools! How It Works:
- Customers can shop the over 1,500 participating products and with every purchase of 4 participating items, they will earn 3 School Dollars (8 products = $6, 12 products = $9).
- Customers can buy any combination of products from participating vendors and can find participating items marked with shelf tags in-store.
- Each School Dollar printout will include a QR code that customers can scan to donate their School Dollars.
- The QR code will bring customers to our online redemption website, where they can donate their School Dollars directly to any participating school and download the Hannaford Helps Schools app. Downloading the app is not required but it stores the customers’ information and school choice, making redemption even easier.
- Customers can also deposit their School Dollars in the collection tower in stores. All School Dollar printouts collected in stores will be compiled and evenly distributed among all participating schools.
- The distributed dollars from the collection tower will be added to the school-specific online donations and generate a payout list. We issue checks to schools per this tally.
- The top 200 schools that raise the most money will also receive a $1,000 bonus check!

If the damage is seemingly accidental damage, the chromebook will be repaired at no cost to the student. If you have any questions, please reach out to the DMS Main Office.
