A Letter From Dr. Chattman...
Dear Parents,
As many of you know and/or experienced first-hand, there has been a multitude of viruses spreading throughout Evansdale. While this is not unusual for a school environment, there are things that can be done to reduce the chances of transmission of and exposure to viruses and germs.
The most important way to not spread germs and viruses is by hand washing. Please reinforce the importance of hand washing at home. The second most important way not to spread germs, especially for children, is to keep their hands to themselves and not share any clothing items (hats, jackets, scarves, gloves, etc.). We are taking extra precautions at school as well, including frequent hand washing and hand sanitizing.
If your child does become ill with fever and/or vomiting, diarrhea, excessive coughing, please do not send him/her to school. Per DeKalb County School District policy, students must be symptom and fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicine before returning to school. The CDC defines fever as 100 degrees Fahrenheit or 37.8 degrees Celsius, measured by mouth.
If children get sick or injured at school, a staff member will notify parent(s) and/or emergency contacts. In the case of an emergency that requires immediate medical attention, 911 will be called. Please make sure that your emergency contact information is up to date at all times so that you and/or the emergency contacts you designate can be reached as needed.
If you have any questions regarding Evansdale’s policy and procedures related to illnesses, please don’t hesitate to contact our clinic assistant, Phoebe Osagie at 678-874-2707. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and partnership in keeping Evansdale a healthy environment for learning.
Sincerely,
Stephanie L. Chattman
