Family Math Night for Grades K, 1 and 2
ATTENTION Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade Families, Let’s Play!!
Students and their families in Grades K through Grade 2 are invited to join us for a Family Math Game Night on Tuesday, April 23rd from 6:00 - 7:30 pm! Doors will open at 5:45 pm.
Research shows that playing games with your child that involve numbers, cards, dice, counting, and logic provides important experiences in helping them make sense of mathematics. This will be a night of playing games, learning why playing games and talking about math is so important, as well as having some good old-fashioned family fun! There will be raffles and a giveaway. Look for more information after Spring Break!
We want to extend a HUGE thank you to the Indian Prairie Education Foundation (IPEF) for providing the grant to fun this amazing event!
White Eagle School Spotlight Video
Celebrating our diverse languages!
We just wrapped up Week 2 of our Immersion Experience by learning a little bit of the Uzbek language. We have 17 students at White Eagle that speak Uzbek!
There are 44 different languages that White Eagle students bring to our school everyday. Some of our students are fluent in both their home language and the English language. Some of our students are just starting to learn English. Through this Immersion Experience, our goal is to teach our students that we can communicate with each other even if we communicate differently. Each week, we are not only focusing on learning a few words or phrases in a different language, but also strategies that we can use to support communication. Some of the strategies that we have talked about so far include: showing, modeling, acting out, repeating, using visual supports (drawing or showing pictures), and repeating in a different way.
Ask your student(s) to share with you what they have learned from our Uzbek speakers this week. 🙂
FUN FACTS:
Uzbek is the official and national language of Uzbekistan and is spoken by over 35 million people. Uzbekistan is about the same size as California and is located in Asia. The Uzbek language is one of the Turkic languages. It is the official national language and since 1992 is written in the Latin alphabet.

Attendance Reminder
This is a friendly reminder that students must be present for more than half the school day in order to attend school-related events during, before or after school. This is particularly important if a student is absent due to an illness.
