August 15, 2022 - FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!!
On the first day....
- Team-building in advisory
- Overview of the Hellstern Student Handbook
- Orientation to the cafeteria and procedures for lunch
- Explanation of dismissal procedures
- Students will get schedules
- Tours of the building and classroom locations
- Administrators will host a school-wide zoom
Be sure and ask your student how his/her day went. Ask your student about his/her advisor and what he/she is most excited about this year.
Please know that students will have ample opportunity to learn procedures, policies, and practices during these first weeks of school. If you ever have questions, do not hesitate to contact your child's teachers and ask.

EVERY student at Hellstern will need the following:
- earbuds
- zipper binder w/strap ("Trapper-Keeper")
- backpack with laptop protection area built in (optional)
- paper & pencils
- water bottle (labeled with student name)
- PE shirt ($10 optional)
All other supplies needed will be on team lists. 7th grade students may have supplies needed for elective classes.
Car Rider Arrival/Dismissal Information
Every procedure that we have in place at dismissal and arrival times are put in place for student safety. Please follow these guidelines as you drop-off and pick-up your student. Our doors will open at 7:45am in the morning. If it is raining, students can enter the closest available door. Otherwise, students will learn which door he/she should "normally" enter. Please don't be afraid to let your child walk to his/her door. PULL FORWARD - this allows the maximum number of students to disembark as possible at one time.
DRIVE SLOWLY ON HAR-BER AVE! We have many students that walk and ride bikes.
WALKERS:
- In the morning, we have a crosswalk attendant from 7:45-8am at the 7th grade car-rider line crosswalks.
- If a student needs to walk westward (toward Tuscany) we escort students across the 6th grade car-rider lane so they can enter the Tuscany sub-division at the swimming pool fence.
- If a student needs to walk eastward (toward HBHS) we escort students down to Har-Ber Ave. and across the 7th grade car-rider line. Students may not walk toward HBHS using any other route.
- If a student needs to cross Har-Ber Ave, we use the crosswalk and have adults stationed at the crosswalk to escort them safely across the street.
- Students may NOT exit out the gymnasium.
CAR RIDERS:
- Sixth graders drop on the West side of the building (closest to Storms Orthodontics). The seventh graders will drop on the East side (closest to the football stadium).
- 6th grade parents, especially this first week, if you are driving to Hellstern from the East (HBHS side), STAY in the RIGHT LANE and go around the traffic waiting to turn in on the 7th grade lane.
- Parents should not drop students at the front of the building unless they are parking and coming in the building. This is where busses load.
- Please be patient during the first week of school, arrival and dismissal always takes a little longer.
- Students should exit & enter vehicles using the vehicle door closest to the curb for safety.
- Cell phones should NEVER be used on school property in a vehicle - it's the LAW!
- Always pull as far forward as you can - students will walk to get to your car.
- At dismissal, students will stand on the same sidewalk every day. Each team has a designated area that they will wait. Again, PLEASE pull ALLLLLL the way forward, so we can load as many students as possible at a time.
- Students may NOT exit out the gymnasium.
BUS RIDERS:
- Be outside early until you know when the bus will usually arrive in the mornings.
- We do serve breakfast, so your child can eat when he/she arrives.
- Students will wait in the common areas of the building to get on their bus at the end of the day.
- We never know the order in which busses will load until the first day. Bussing ALWAYS takes longer on the first few days so please be patient when waiting for them to arrive home after school.
- We allow ample time to load the first few weeks of school. Once the bus order is established and we have a consistent pattern, we will expect students to be ready and listening for his/her bus to be called. If a student misses the bus, he/she will call you from the office.
- Students are not allowed to ride a bus unless he/she lives in the zone. If a student wants to visit a friend after school, make arrangements with the family to be car-riders - do not depend on the bus for transportation.
