Women in Leadership
Taking Inspiration from Women in our Community
It is a truth universally acknowledged that women have not always been welcome in the workplace and in leadership roles. We are proud at Fredonia to have a large number of intelligent, talented, and involved women leaders on our campus.
Dr. Virginia Horvath
Our very own campus President is a great example of strong female leadership on our campus. Dr. Horvath is Fredonia's first female President, and is also a Professor of English on our campus. You can often see her attending student's events and encouraging a connected campus environment.
Dr. Terry Brown
Dr. Brown is Fredonia's Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Brown is an extremely involved woman on Fredonia's campus. Dr. Brown truly helps create a student body of skilled, connected, creative and responsible students.
Lisa Newell
Lisa Newell is the Director of Judicial Affairs. She is a strong member of our campus community because she strives to keep Fredonia a safe campus for all students. Ms. Newell is a great advocate for students here at Fredonia.
Encouraging Fredonian Women to be Involved in Campus Community and Beyond
According to the United States Department of Labor and related sources:
57% of women participate in the labor force
There is a wage gap between men and women, (dependent on variables such as race, ethnicity and age) but most women make about 73 cents to a man's dollar.
In American government, women take about about 19% of the House of Representatives and out of 31 women who have ever been elected to the Senate, 20 are currently serving.
