January Newsletter
Cottonwood School
Greetings Cottonwood Families
Hello Cottonwood Family,
We had a great end to 2020 with amazing lessons and activities in all of our classes! Our students also had an opportunity to decorate an ornament to put on the Christmas tree located just outside the old schoolhouse. Thank you to all students who participated and those who tuned in to see our Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Speaking of tuning in, we want to thank everyone for being patient in tuning in to our Virtual Holiday Music Program. We were having technical issues with Youtube but were happy to problem-solve and have the opportunity to see all of the amazing students at Idyllwild and Cottonwood perform! Thank you to Mr. Beuche for providing an opportunity for our students to showcase their musical talents while in our virtual environment.
Thank you to all of our staff, students, and parents for working in partnership to make 2020 the best that it could possibly be. We hope that everyone has a restful winter break and time to connect with your loved ones. See you all in 2021!!
Win the day,
Mr. Stearns

Character Corner
For the month of January our school will emphasize the character trait of "Tolerance (Friendliness)." Tolerance is showing respect for those who are different than me. Friendliness could also be described as knowing, liking, and accepting other people. Being tolerant and friendly is a great skill to have and definitely needed in this day and age. The biggest lesson we can teach our young Cubs and Cougars is that it is okay to not agree with someone’s opinion or views. It does not make them a bad person, and it does not make you a bad person either. Being tolerant, demonstrates that we can get along and respect one another, even if we do not see things the same way.
We would love to see our students in action demonstrating our character trait! Please e-mail any pictures of your children to Mrs. Niaves (aniaves@hemetusd.org) demonstrating tolerance (friendliness) in school, around the house or the community so that we can showcase their efforts!
Weekly Habits for Success
It is our goal at Cottonwood School to ensure that our students have the tools and habits to be successful in whatever they choose to pursue. Our staff have been emphasizing "Weekly Habits for Success" with our students to help fill their "tool belt" with specific skills. You can help by having a discussion on these habits and how they translate to success in the real world. Below are the habits that were emphasized in the month of November:
Creating, Imagining, and Innovating
Responding With Wonderment and Awe
Personal Integrity and Assume Responsibility
