Childhood Obesity

Why is childhood obesity such a problem?
Childhood obesity is a rising problem in the United States and has been for the past couple of years. Because of increase in technology, the amount of exercise has gone down. Today's generation of children would rather stay inside than go outside and play sports or just play around. Children who are obese tend to be obese as a adults with different types of medical conditions. They also tend to have low self esteem and are more likely to be depressed.
Food Pyramid
This is the basic food pyramid that shows the food groups and what each food group contains. Today, we have a food plate instead of the pyramid to show the different portion sizes that each plate should have. It still shows the basic food groups.
How can we solve this? A solution
Childhood obesity can be solved by educating more communities and families about the actual dangers of childhood obesity. As a school, we could set up a group of students to go out into the community and to different school and teach children about how to stay healthy. USI could also host a day of exercise where different elementary schools and middle schools could come to our campus and do different physical activities. This could help kids get the guidance from older student that exercise is important and can also be fun. This would also be good practice for students who are thinking about majoring in diet and nutrition and other fields dealing with exercise.
