The Herald
Hoboken Public School District
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope that you are having a wonderful weekend. We completed a very busy week across the district. Our students worked very hard and enjoyed a number of fun learning experiences.
Many families have asked about our LEAP Into Summer Camp Information and Registration. If you have a child currently in grades PK-4 through 7 and enrolled in our district for next school year, he or she is eligible to participate in our LEAP Summer Program. This year, LEAP will operate in 2-week camp blocks. Families may register children for one 2-week camp or more. We will operate four, 2-week camps in total equating to an 8-week program running from Monday, July 5th through Friday, August 27th. LEAP is at no cost to families that qualify for the free lunch program. It will run from 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. LEAP will also host a before care option beginning at 7:45 a.m. and an after care option until 6:00 p.m.
In response to parental input, we are proud to pull out the morning portion of the LEAP Into Summer Camp Program called Explorations and offer those activities to families as an alternative to a full day camp program. For information about Camp Explorations, visit our Parent Guide and Registration webpage.
We are so pleased to offer both of these summer camp options as an extension of learning and fun for our students. Please direct any questions about LEAP to Mr. Christopher DellaFave, Director of Innovative Programs at cdellafave@hoboken.k12.nj.us.
It's also incredible that the month of March is underway. On Thursday, April 1st our district calendar reflects a 1:00 p.m. dismissal followed by spring break which runs through Friday, April 9th. We will operate one week of remote learning after spring break, from Monday, April 12th through Friday April 16th. Our next and last Declaration Period will begin on Monday, April 19th. For all those families that wish to continue with onsite learning or switch to onsite learning will produce a negative COVID Test. We will provide families with testing options that will take place between Friday, April 16th and Monday morning, April 19th. I will release the Declaration of Intent, travel guidelines and more information about testing in the upcoming days.
In closing, there is a Google Form below to complete if your family is in need or if you know of a family that may be in need of support or assistance. The Hoboken Public School District has established a network to help with food, clothing, household items, PPE, toiletries, school supplies, reading materials, or pet supplies.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions that you may have. Have a wonderful evening.
Sincerely,
Christine A. Johnson

HMS Best Buddies Match Day
March is “Inclusion” month, and Hoboken Middle School aims to celebrate all year long! Sometimes we may wonder how one small action can make a difference. An inclusive world can be created through individual acts of inclusion – finding and welcoming those who have been left out, being a teammate, becoming a friend. Hoboken Middle School believes that inclusion is a skill that we can all practice – and when we do, we become better at including all people. To celebrate Inclusion Month, the HMS Best Buddies Friendship Chapter is asking everyone to pledge to include, to commit to an act of inclusion in their school, workplace, or community. These actions can be as simple as sitting with someone alone at lunch, inviting someone who has been excluded to join a pick-up sports game, or welcoming someone by saying hello during the school day. On March 5th, Hoboken Middle School's Best Buddies Friendship Chapter pledged to include others by holding its very first “Match Day” event! During this virtual event, the buddies met to play Kahoot, meet their buddy pairs, and to just have fun.
Kean University is Building "CommUNITY"
This past week, fifteen Hoboken Middle School students in grades 6-8 had the opportunity to participate in another virtual conference focused on building leadership skills while implementing the concept of commUNITY in school hosted by Kean University's Diversity Council. Students were fully engaged in the inclusive virtual conference where they were able to meet students from other districts and could discuss relevant and meaningful topics about diversity and acceptance. Diversity Council members from Kean University presented ways for students to have a stronger leadership presence while being mindful of diversity and embracing diversity. The virtual conference was a wonderful way for our Hoboken Middle School students to network with peers from around the State and engage in meaningful conversations. We look forward to working with Kean University for future learning opportunities.

Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Art Competition
The Hudson County Prosecutor, Esther Suarez, invited all K-12 students in Hudson County to submit artwork, poetry, or a short essay about “What #BlackHistoryMonth Means to You.” The goal was to illustrate a person/event in history, or someone in your community that has made an impact on you. Two Hoboken High School students, Eliza Nunez and Jorge Carreon, submitted pieces of artwork and were selected as top finalists from all Hudson County Finalists. The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office will be posting the top eight entries onto our Instagram next week – one per day – for voting to select the winners. Whichever three submissions receive the most likes within 24-hours of being posted, will receive the $50 gift cards. Stay tuned for more details. Congratulations Mrs. Amatucci, Jorge, and Eliza.
