2nd Trimester Attendance Letter Reminder
It is very important that we continue to work collaboratively and assist students to avoid reaching the critical stage of chronic truancy. With that in mind, we will be sending home a letter to parents/guardians when student absences exceed 10% of school days. The first round of letters will be sent home at the end of the 2nd Trimester. Today is the last day of the 2nd Trimester. We will pull student absences and letters will be sent home next week. Please know that this letter intends not to alarm or punish parents or students, but is to provide timely absence information and create an opportunity to partner with families for improvement.
Our staff is here to support you and your child in any way we can.Thank you for your attention to this matter, and please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns regarding attendance.
Class Placement Process - Parent Input Reminder
Optional Form is due by 3pm Friday, March 22nd.
Spring is approaching! While we still have lots to accomplish this school year, it's also time to start preparing for the next academic year. There are many decisions to be made around scheduling, staffing, and professional learning, but generating class lists is one of the most important things we do to create the foundation for continued success in the upcoming school year.
The process of generating class lists is collaborative in nature and involves input from individuals from all aspects of our school. The integrity and professionalism of our staff is the foundation of our wonderful school. We feel that we know each of our students well. We know their learning styles, relationships with peers, academic strengths and challenges. Our intention is to create groups of children who reflect heterogeneity and cohesiveness.
Student placement is based upon many considerations. Some of the influencing factors in this process include:
Balance of male and female students
A heterogeneous range of reading, writing, and math in each room
Consideration of emotional needs, giftedness, and other special needs
Separation of social conflicts
Balance of students with strong leadership qualities
Balance of students with good study habits
Your input is important. If you would like to add to our knowledge of your child’s social, emotional, or academic needs, you may do so by submitting this form to me no later than 3pm Friday, March 22nd. LATE submissions may not be accepted due to the timeline of the overall process. Please note, this is completely optional.
In the past, we may have made attempts to match up younger siblings with the same teacher that their older brother or sister had. I understand the value of relationships and the consistency that this offers. However, this factor does not supersede the overall goal of creating groups of children who reflect heterogeneity and cohesiveness. Please note, this information is still important. If you and your child had a positive experience, and you think that information is important for us to consider, please include that information on the form. Requests for specific teachers will not be granted and should not be part of the information you share.
The needs and information you share will be treated as part of the process in making assignments for next year. Please respect the integrity of this process. Thank you in advance for your assistance and cooperation. I am excited about next year and look forward to your continued partnership as we work together for the success of your child.
Thank you,
Katie Johnson

Cougars Reading Club: Reading Incentive
The Game Plan
Our school will be participating in the Cougars Reading Club, a reading incentive program sponsored by the Kane County Cougars baseball team. Your child will have the opportunity to improve their reading skills while earning a free ticket to a Cougars game, enjoying a free hot dog and drink at the game and participating in a parade on the field before the game.
This incentive program will be taking place from now through March. Your child will advance the bases as they commit to reading every night. Your child's classroom teacher will share the specific goal set for their class.
If students earn their free ticket, families will receive a voucher and an order form to purchase additional tickets for family members. There have been two dates that have been blocked for Elizabeth Ide so families and classmates can plan to attend together; Saturday, May 18th at 6:30 p.m. or Saturday, May 25th at 6:30 p.m.
We hope this reading challenge will be a grand slam with your support!
