MUSIC "NOTES"
Music Class!!
Here is a brief overview of what students are working on in their music classes!
· Kindergarten and first grade music classes continue to review and explore concepts such as steady beat, rhythm, contrasting sections of music, pitch, and much more!
· 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade music classes are exploring, experiencing, identifying, and performing various song forms! Common song forms include verse/refrain, call/response, rondo, theme & variations, and many others!
All the above concepts are being demonstrated through singing, playing instruments, games, worksheets, story books, dancing/movement activities, discussion, and listening.
Chorus
4th and 5th grade chorus members continue to meet every Monday morning in order to practice and prepare for our upcoming performances. We recently performed at Tuscarora High School for the annual “Empty Bowls Benefit Concert.” The students performed on stage and did an outstanding job. They represented our school well, on and off the stage. More performances to come, including:
· May 17th, Evening Concert at TuES, 7pm.
· May 22nd, “Star Spangled Banner” at Harry Grove (Keys) Stadium.
Honors Chorus
Seven of our 5th grade students recently had an opportunity to sing with other 5th grade students from around FCPS. They did a fantastic job performing and representing our school!!! The performance occurred on April 18th and took place at the Weinberg Center in downtown Frederick. The sold out audience listened in amazement as 150 5th grade singers, led by conductor Dr. Brent Talbot, performed music from all around the world. Further information about this performance can be found on the front page of the “Frederick News Post,” published Friday, April 20th!
