Student Information For The Year 2014-2015
Over the next few months, we will begin the process of assigning students to an appropriate class for next year. In putting together our roster of classes, we will take into consideration many factors including: girl/boy ratio, academic ability, behavioral characteristics, talents, personalities, needs, and learning styles. Our goal is to ensure that each child is in a class that has an appropriate balance of students with the proper teacher. We will assess each child using the data collected from the present classroom teacher(s) and the input of the Student Support Counselors, Reading Specialists, Assistant Principal, and Principal.
Class placement is made after reviewing considerable data. If you feel that we would benefit from additional information, please send the attached form in an envelope addressed to Mrs. Loughlin in the Bridge Valley office. You SHOULD NOT name a specific teacher! District staffing is not complete until June and teaching assignments may change. This form is designed to speak to your child’s areas of strength and need, and not to a specific teacher preference. Please note: Requests for specific teachers will not be considered and will be returned to parents with a new parent input form.
Much time and attention goes into creating well-balanced class groupings that consider the social, academic, and emotional needs of our students, as well as any input which is shared by parents on the Class Placement Input Form. We ask all parents to respect the amount of hard work and thought that the principal, assistant principal, school counselors, reading specialists, classroom teachers, and special education teachers put into this process and not request changes to your child’s placement.
Moving even one child from a class could upset the balance of a classroom, and have an impact that extends far beyond your child. Your son may not have gotten his “first” choice of teacher. Your daughter may not be with all of her friends from last year. You may be disappointed because you’ve heard through the grapevine that Mr. “A” isn’t as “warm and fuzzy” as Mrs. “B”. All of our teachers are caring, capable, and highly-qualified educators, and our job as adults is to support students and to help them develop confidence and a positive outlook as they begin the new school year, encouraging them to look forward to the challenges and excitement that accompany making new friends and getting to know a new teacher. Thank you for your cooperation in not requesting changes and for your understanding, trust, and support.
ELEMENTARY REPORT CARD REVISIONS. . .
As we work to finalize our new reporting system, we want to continue to offer resources to help facilitate the transition to the “new” report card, and explain the rationale and offer some insight into the work that has been done thus far.
We invite you to attend one of our three cluster meetings. District clusters include all elementary schools affiliated with each high school attendance area. In each one-hour meeting, we will define the goals of a standards-based reporting system by highlighting the characteristics that enhance our educational programming for elementary school children. Mark your calendar for Wednesday, April 23, 2014, 7 pm. Central Bucks staff will make a presentation to parents at Pine Run Elementary School. For more information and to RSVP please click here.

VIRTUAL HEART DISSECTION
6th graders learn in school about the heart and how it works. Recently Bridge Valley 6th graders participated in a virtual heart dissection as part of their human body unit. Unami Middle School teachers Michelle Spera and Colleen Haag teach and dissect hearts in their 8th grade science classes. The teachers took time to demonstrate a heart dissection to the 140, sixh graders via Lync, our district video conferencing tool.
If you watch the short, edited 2 minute video below you can see how Lync allowed voice, video and document camera sharing to enable the 6th graders to experience a great lesson! Teachers in CB can use Lync, or Skype, to extend their learning experiences beyond the classroom walls.
When one of the 6th graders named Remi was asked what she thought of the event she said, “I thought it was cool to video chat with middle school teachers. We have never done that in school. It was great to learn about the heart and to also see what a middle school classroom looks like at the same time.”
The tools that were utilized in this activity were: Lync 2010, Logitech Quickcam Orbit WebCam, Ziggi Document Cam, and a donated pig heart.
