November Service Project- Show your Support of Alzheimers/Dementia
At Prestwick STEM Academy, our Alzheimer’s and Dementia Awareness fundraiser is underway. Please show your support by sending coins/loose change to your students classroom for a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Thank you for you support!
Counselor's Corner- Guidance Topic: Service
We are working with our students on service through the Canned Food Drive experience and the drive for Alzheimer's/Dementia Awareness.
Other acts of service include our students involvement in leadership through the NJHS service as well as pushing into classes where teachers talk about service. Career Portals class has been supporting the Service causes by making ribbons, posters, and other awareness posts for other students. Additionally, there are several students in the 4th,5th, and 6th grades that will be running for office or representative in our PSA Lobo Ambassadors STUCO. They are pumped up and ready to run and serve!
Let's make it a thankful and grateful month of service here at PSA. Have a conversation with your child about how service is so important in our lives and your family life. Thank you to all of our parents and students for serving others!
Mrs. Burrell- your Proud Prestwick Counselor (K through 8)

Spotlight on LEarning
At Prestwick learning truly happens anywhere, anytime! On a Monday morning at 7:50 am in the cafeteria, what did my eyes see . . . students discussing debate strategies! In Mrs. Diaz's 8th grade language arts class, students put together two minute persuasive debates using elements of persuasive writing. It was a great application of the learning!
In the middle area downstairs, Mrs. Malcom's 4th grade science students are in the middle of their Project Based Learning lesson on the types of energy. Students were seen testing out parachutes to see if size impacted the dropping speed to working together on their computers to input their research in the Engage PBL online system. Some even made a catchy gravity dance!
Later in the week, confident 1st graders went up to middle school students eating and asked very important questions to gather real-life data! What is your favorite candy? What is your favorite food? Middle school students loved the interaction and answering their questions. I think one middle school student was surprised when they joked about a candy not on the list. Mrs. Graves' first grader boldly stated, "That is not a choice on my survey!" Learning is social and academic, and best when interwoven! Great work Mrs. Graves and your team of 1st graders!
