D.W. Daniel High School
May Newsletter
Message from the Principal
For high school seniors May marks the end of their high school careers. May is the month dedicated to sending our seniors off in style. At D. W. Daniel we hold multiple awards ceremonies; celebrate senior nights with athletics, fine arts, clubs, and ROTC; produce Lip Dub and host Senior Fest; and end the month with graduation. We have the opportunity to celebrate our students before watching them leave our halls for the last time. The start to this month has been particularly bittersweet. We dearly miss having our students in our halls and being able to celebrate face to face, but we are finding new and innovative ways to honor our students. We are dedicating this newsletter to the achievements of our senior class. We hope that each one of them knows how proud we are of them and that we are thankful to be a part of their educational journey. They will forever be Daniel Lions.

From the Athletic Department
"The end of the season is especially devastating to our statewide Class of 2020 seniors. We appreciate and thank you for everything you have done for your schools and communities during your high school career. We truly wish you the very best as you move ahead to college and/or the workforce. Although difficult, the lessons learned and friendships made through high school sports activities will last throughout your lifetime."
We know this closure has not only impacted our athletes, but it has been a difficult time for all. We congratulate all of our seniors at Daniel and wish you the very best!
Usually this time of year is spent recognizing our senior athletes at their respective sports banquets. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we were not able to recognize them in person. The Athletic Department created a virtual spotlight to recognize those 2020 Spring senior athletes who chose to submit items. Click here to view.
A huge thank you to the Town of Central for displaying our senior banners! If you have not had a chance to drive by, please do! The banners are located near the caboose on Highway 93.
Congratulations to these athletes who have committed to playing sports in college. We wish you the best and look forward to seeing what the future holds for each one of you:
Brenton Benson - Basketball, Spartanburg Methodist College
Delaney Land - Cheer, Lander University
Andrew Latiff - Basketball, College of Charleston
Be on the lookout! The South Carolina High School League has issued a new physical form. We will have this on our website, Danielathletics.com, to download soon.
AP Exams Begin 5/11/2020!
The College Board has redesigned the AP exams this year due to COVID-19. Students enrolled in AP courses at Daniel High School are expected to take their final AP exams. Detailed information about the changes can be found on this website.
- Exams are digital this year.
- Exams will test content most AP classes have covered by early March.
- Exams will be open book and open note.
- Exams can be taken on computer, tablet, or smartphone.
- Students can attach typed responses, paste typed responses, or submit handwritten responses via smartphone photo.
- Exams will be 50 minutes with either one question or two questions (30 minutes for first and 20 minutes for second).
- The last 5 minutes for each question is for submitting responses, not for working. Responses not submitted before time expires will not be accepted.
- World Languages and Music Theory exams will work a little differently, so visit the above website for more details.
- Each student will receive an email 2 days before the exam with an AP ID and e-ticket. (Students should go ahead and sign in to MyAP to make sure their email addresses are correct.)
- 30 minutes before the exam, students need click on the link provided in the e-ticket to complete pretesting.
- Well before their first exam, students need to launch the exam demo on all devices they might use for the exam to both make sure their browsers [Chrome (recommended), Firefox, Safari, & Microsoft Edge--Internet Explorer is not supported] are compatible and to familiarize themselves with the interface.
- Students should also view the short video about what to expect in exam day.
