Alliance Update

Dear Alliance families and students,
I hope everyone is enjoying this amazing spring weather!
In this month's newsletter we are sharing information about some fantastic events coming up in April. One is a substance use prevention event coming up at McDaniel high school on April 20th and the other is a very exciting poetry and performance event to be held at our Kenton campus on April 23rd.
We are also looking forward to celebrating Noche Latina on Thursday, May 2nd at the Meek campus! It will be an amazing night of fun and celebration. All are welcome and we hope you can join us.
We're also looking for some volunteers to help show our appreciation for our amazing Alliance High School teachers during teacher appreciation week which is May 6th through May 10th.
As always, we hope you will be able to join us for our monthly parent meeting on google meets on 4/30. This month we will be joined by Mary Stevens-Krogh who will be sharing information about drug and alcohol prevention and supports in Portland Public Schools.

Seeking Volunteers for Teacher Appreciation Week 5/6-5/10
Teacher appreciation week is right around the corner and we are looking for family volunteers to help show our appreciation for our teachers on both the Meek and Kenton campus. We are asking our families, if they have time, to send a quick note or email of appreciation to some of their student's teachers. If you are able to do more (e.g. sign up to bring muffins or cookies) and would like to sign up to help out with our appreciation week activities you can do that with this link.
Alliance at Meek Spring Conferences April 25th 8:00 to 4:00 PM
Spring conferences for Meek students are coming up on Thursday, April 24th from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Please reach out to your child's advisory teacher to schedule a time. We are offering conferences both in-person and virtually. If you are not sure who your child's advisory teacher is, give us a call at (503) 916-5747.

Free & Open to the Community- Prevention Rocks! Saturday April 20th 10:00-3:00
Portland Public Schools in partnership with Multnomah County and the Big Village Coalition are hosting a FREE community-wide event - Prevention Rocks!! This event will take place at McDaniel High School 2735 NE 82nd Ave. The event will include workshops, a resource fair, lunch and a Llama photo booth! Flier linked here.
Prevention Rocks is a free, family-friendly event focused on reducing youth substance use and celebrating connection!
Mouthing Off!
Alliance at Kenton is proud to present "Mouthing Off", a poetry and performance event on April 23rd from 11:20-12:30. There will also be a special blind, palate taste test with our Culinary teacher, Sai Linah. Families and friends are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will provided. Alliance High School Parent Meetings
We have scheduled meetings for the last school Tuesday of the month for the remainder of the school year. This is your opportunity to hear updates from the Principal and Vice Principal, learn more about programs and opportunities for your child at Alliance, give your input on important decisions about the school (especially as we get ready to merge and move next year) and connect with opportunities to get involved with and support Alliance High School. All are welcome and we hope to see you there!
This month we will be joined by special guest Mary Stevens-Krogh who will sharing some information about drug and alcohol resources and supports available to students and families in Portland Public Schools.
