B. L. Gray Librarian Develops Student News Team
"I am incredibly pleased to take the live announcement student news team under my wing this year," says Librarian Wenndy Pray. B. L. Gray recently added courses like News Production, along with other similar elective courses. In order to be ready for the first six weeks of news, Mrs. Pray used the library's Remind feed to recruit its first members. Eighth graders Rafael Candelas, Cecilia Medellin, and Samira Salinas were the first to respond and have proved to be a great team. Officer Paniagua serves as producer behind the scenes and facilitates a smooth session. "The librarian's role is quickly changing," shares Mrs. Pray. "It is in a librarian's best interest to keep up with the versatility that our profession demands. And that includes wearing the hats of instructional facilitator, trainer, library administrator, co-teacher, cataloger, and even news anchor." "Besides," adds Mrs. Pray, "what better way to mentor students on presentation and public speaking?" Mrs. Pray also composes the scrolling announcements that appear on the schools big screen TVs.

B. L. Gray Jr. Students Kick Off Student Book Club
B. L. Gray Rattlers enjoy helping in the library. It is from these students that the idea for a book club emerged. "I was incredibly pleased with the demand for a book club," says librarian, Mrs. Pray. "Students are excited to share about their reading autobiographies through sketchnoting, and to ultimately create videos, interviews, graphics, and book trailers about the books we will read. Ultimately, I want to teach them that reading can be fun and hope to teach them how to embrace literature in a way that is uniquely fun for them." BLUESCREEN by Dan Wells
It is 2050 and technology has advanced to the point that almost everyone has a smart device implanted into their head, so they can be online 24 hours a day. Drugs are still a problem in this world, and now there is a new drug on the streets called Bluescreen, which is a virtual drug that plugs directly into people’s smart device and promises a completely safe high. When Marisa’s friend Anja uses this new drug and has a bad reaction, she and her friends set out to find out who is behind it, and they are quickly wrapped up in something bigger and scarier than they could have imagined.
