Galileo Galilei

Biography
Italian scientist and scholar who made pioneering observations that laid the foundation for modern physics and astronomy in the 1600's. He mostly lived in northern Italy. He didn't have any patrons he worked for. Some facts about him is that he agreed with Johannes Kepler in the fact that the universe was heliocentric not geocentric. He also was charged with heresy and was sentenced to death unless he revoked his theory, but it is said that after he left the courthouse he said "And yet it moves." speaking about the planets.
Famous Works
He revealed after many experiments that all of the balls boasted the same acceleration independent of their mass. He also demonstrated that objects thrown in the air travel along a parabola, he also worked with pendulums and that accurate timekeeping was nonexistent and that the time it takes a pendulum to swing back and forth does not depend on the arc of the swing.
