Mrs. Abernathy's 2nd Grade News
Everton Elementary
A note from your 2nd grade teacher:
Hello 2nd grade families! Happy Thursday... the weekend is within sight! However, I am finding it hard to believe that we have almost reached May and the end of the school year. I look back and it feels like the first day of school when your children walked through my classroom as beginning 2nd graders. Now they are a bit taller and ready for 3rd. I am thankful that I have a few more days with them! :)
If you have an incoming kindergartener, I will see you at Kindergarten Round-up this Saturday at the Spartan Learning Center!
Our field day will be on May 15th! This is always a blast and we would love volunteers... please see your child's Friday folder for more info.
Our hanging basket fundraiser wraps up next Wednesday! We appreciate all of your support in this! :)
Have a great remainder to your week!

A little about your teacher....
Welcome to second grade! I am embarking on my 16th year of teaching and I am incredibly excited to be in second grade!
I was born a buckeye, but married a Hoosier, which is what brought me to Connersville. I have my bachelor and master’s degrees in education from Indiana University East, holding true to my childhood dream of being a teacher. Before coming to Everton Elementary, I taught for a nearby district for 7 years, teaching elementary and preschool special education. Then, the past 9 years I have been a Bearcat!
I am married to Trevor and we have two beautiful children: Lilly, also a fourth grader at Everton, and Easton, who will soon be five. We reside in Connersville and are assistant pastors at our local church. Both our kiddos and our church keep us busy, but when I do get a moment of free time, I enjoy being with my family, catching up with friends, cleaning/organizing, cooking, shopping, crafting,, and enjoying a cup of coffee (or two)!
While in the classroom, it is very important to me to develop a personal relationship with each of my students. It is my philosophy that the more I know them, the better that I can teach them. I believe in creating a fun learning environment for my students, where they are comfortable and know that they are cared for. With all of this in mind, I have many fun activities planned for second grade.
As we start this school year, please know that effective communication between the school and the child’s home is a necessity. If at any time you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. We are all in this together! Please expect this newsletter to be delivered to your e-mail each Friday. Welcome to second grade… let’s get ready to learn!
