Ninth Grade News
Week of October 12
This week marks the final week of our first grading period. As you know, students have the option of changing their instructional model each grading period. In order to meet the request for the number of in-person learners we will have on campus, we will make adjustments to our master schedule which will necessitate adding teaching sections and balancing class sizes. All students will receive a copy of their updated schedules on October 19 in first-period classes.
We are thankful for your partnership and are looking forward to another great week of Growing Greatness!
Sincerely,
Carolyn Ansley, Principal

Staff Spotlight
Mrs. Nikki Hyles - Biology
An alumni of the AHS Class of ‘90, Coach Hyles teaches Biology and is the AHS Girls’ Head Basketball Coach. She graduated from the University of North Texas and followed in the footsteps of the teachers and coaches who inspired her in high school. She spends her free time crafting, gardening, and, of course, watching sports. This year she wants to help our kids get through the pandemic, while encouraging them to continue to grow as students and take ownership of their education. If she had a superpower, you wouldn’t be able to see her….she’d be invisible!
Student Council is all about helping out our community and being a voice for the class of 2025 through leadership and volunteer opportunities. See Ms. Black in room A205 for more information.
Leading Ladies
Leading ladies is a philanthropic organization for young women where we focus on growing and inspiring young ladies to be confident leaders in the community and beyond. Members will gain experience in the five essential characteristics/skills of a leader – integrity, enthusiasm, vision, confidence, communication, and commitment. Through school and community events & service opportunities, the Leading Ladies will demonstrate these skills while making positive contributions and influencing others to do the same. See Ms. Staats (B107) or Mrs. Lindsey (B207) for more information.
HOSA
HOSA or Health Occupation Students of America is an organization focused on meeting peers interested in the medical field. We have fun projects, activities, field trips, and state-wide competitions. See Mrs. Petersen in room B202 for more information.
Daniel Ninth Science Club
The Daniel Ninth Science Club is a student-run organization, created to allow students with a strong interest in science to grow in their search for knowledge beyond the classroom. Students in this club will be asked to provide leadership and service within the Daniel Ninth science community, including:
● Assisting Biology teachers with lab setup and takedown
● Providing feedback on Biology labs and activities offered during class
● Suggesting and testing out NEW labs and adjusting them for future use in Biology classes
● Creating student-formed labs and activities to further knowledge and understanding in topics of interest
● Creating web-based review materials for biology students
● Providing tutoring assistance to struggling biology students

Join the English department as they connect to people outside the borders of our campus. We will engage in a letter-writing campaign with people who are impacted by the pandemic. Students may write letters to remote learners, nursing homes, over-seas personnel, first responders, etc. We hope to participate in conversations with students from around the world. BOB meets each Tuesday in Mrs. Callaway's room - B108.
Ted Talk Tuesday
Ted Talk Tuesday is designed for students who desire to learn more from the global community. Students will watch a new Ted Talk each week that will cover various topics and will be challenged later in the semester to present their very own Ted Talk to the class. Let’s learn and teach together! Join us on Tuesdays in Ms. Staat's room - B107
Book Club
Looking for a fun way to enjoy reading? Join our stress-free, no-hassle Book Club where you get to choose what you want to read and when! See Mrs. Taylor in the library for details.
Nutrition & Cooking Club
The goal of the Nutrition & Cooking Club is to spark a desire in students to step into the kitchen and create something amazing. We are exploring both cooking and the nutrition of certain ingredients. In week one we talked about eggs and learned some tips for making great scrambled eggs and French toast. We also explored other ways eggs are used that may be less obvious, such as egg wash on bread, eggs used to seal the edges of pasta, and how and why eggs are an important ingredient in baked goods. In week two, we took a look at the science behind making great ice cream. Join us for culinary fun during Flex on Fridays in Mrs. Petersen's room - B202.
Junior World Affairs Council (JWAC)
JWAC meets on Wednesdays in Coach Reid's classroom during Flex.
Mission: To provide North Texas students with the tools and skills to make a positive change in the North Texas community, effectively interact with people from different backgrounds, and compete for jobs in the global workforce.

How do I check my student out for an appointment or early release?
Daniel Ninth Grade Campus is currently closed to visitors. We understand at times, however, it may be necessary for you to pick up your student for an appointment. Please allow for a few extra minutes when picking up your student as we are using a new check out system and have new processes in place.
